I always thought that all French Toast is the same.
You know, beat some eggs, drag some bread through them, and cook it on a skillet.
Then I learned that there are things that you can add to the eggs to make the French Toast even better.
Sugar Free Epic French Toast
There are so many great French Toast recipes out there especially for the folks who want a bit of a sugar kick in the morning.
I’m not looking for that sugar kick because I know what follows that kick an hour or so later. The next thing that I know is that I am looking for somewhere to take a nap. Are you that way too?
So, I’ve come up with a French Toast that is one step beyond that basic eggs and toast French toast.
First of all, making French Toast even better has a lot to do with the bread that you are using.
Fresh bread isn’t always the best here. As a matter of fact, that old stale bread, that hasn’t changed colors of course, is about the best bread that you can use for French Toast.
Certain kinds of breads are better than others.
Challah bread is about the best tasting bread. French bread and brioche are also good choices.
Lastly, what you add to the mix counts.
Some folks will add a bit of rum or flavored extract to their eggs. Sprinkled confectioners sugar seems to be a standard topping to many.
So what do sugar free folks like in their French Toast?
Try a bit of Nutmeg and Coconut Palm Sugar
And Instead of a heavy cream, I like to add a bit of Greek Yogurt.

- 1 loaf Bread loaf, Challah,French bread and brioche are best
- 6 Eggs
- 1 cup- whole is best Milk
- 3/4 cup Greek Yogurt
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
- 1 teaspoon Nutmeg
- 6 tablespoons melted Butter
- 1/2 cup Coconut Palm Sugar
