The Recipe for how to make Easy Beer Can Chicken could be about the easiest way to cook chicken on a grill!
We like easy when we are grilling around here!
Easy Beer Can Chicken
It certainly is grilling season around here.
Grilling means finding new and interesting ways to grill up those favorite meals.
The first time that we made a beer can chicken, we were impressed with how good it turned out.
Well, and how easy it was to make. The secret is in the can. However, you could use about any can as well.
Beer can chicken is that chicken that is held up on a grill using a beer can and the beer itself.
While just about any beer will work, using a lager beer will add some added flavor to the chicken. This is because the lager gives the chicken an even more robust flavor.

The recipe for Easy Beer Can Chicken
Really, all that you need is your chicken, a beer, a bit of oil, and some seasonings.
The beer that you choose to use in this recipe can also affect the flavor of your chicken as well.
What you will need to make this Easy Beer Can Chicken.
- 1 Chicken (around 4-5 pounds if possible)
- 2 tablespoons of (I use Extra Virgin) Olive Oil
- Seasonings ¼ cup total your choice of which one(s)- can use a pre-pared chicken seasoning blend, salt, pepper, cumin, garlic salt. etc
- ½ can of beer- yellow/lager recommended
How to make Easy Beer Can Chicken.
- Prepare your grill by setting the heat to medium and using only ½ of the grill. Your heated half of the grill should reach between 325 and 350
- Clean your chicken using your method of choice if your chicken has not been cleaned (ie. you don't want the neck/giblets etc inside).
- Rinse your chicken and then pat it dry (paper towels are okay). Take precautions with safety and uncooked poultry while you work.
- Rub your oil over your chicken making sure that the entire chicken is covered with oil.
- In a small bowl, mix together your seasonings which will also be your rub ingredients. Spread your rub/seasonings all over the chicken on the inside as well as the outside.
Grilling the chicken.
- There really is little polite way to explain this part so here goes...you will need to place your chicken over the ½ filled can of beer. The easiest way to do this is to handle the chicken by the legs and place the hole of the chicken over the can. What you choose to do with the other half of your beer is up to you.
- This is a slow and long grilling process over medium heat. It could take as much as 1 ½ hours. What you want is for an internal temperature of at least 160 (thigh) 180 (breast). At this point the juices should run clear when poked by a knife.
- Make this in the oven as an alternative. To roast this in the oven, use a 350 oven and bake your bird until it reach the above internal temperature.
