This great tasting recipe incorporates a salad into your grilled creations.
Cooking your romaine lettuce on a grill really does bring out the taste of it.
However, the grilled romaine also tastes great too!
I will say that this romaine lettuce recipe is an easy one to make.
But, it is not a recipe that everyone thinks about making. I mean, when you think of having a salad with your grilled food, it is probably a salad in a large serving bowl with maybe a few tomatoes tossed in.
However, this grilled lettuce recipe is both a salad and a vegetable.
Anyone who wants to keep a menu for a cookout simple, can appreciate this too.
In addition, this recipe requires few ingredients and an easy preparation.
The first time that I tried this, I was a bit surprised that it is even possible to cook salad or lettuce of any kind on a grill.
This is because my initial thought was that the heat would wilt the lettuce and render it tasteless as a result. However, knowing how to grill the Romaine properly helps to make it taste so much better than tasteless.
This recipe features a 'bacon lettuce and tomato' version of this grilled salad.
However, you are welcome to make your version another version if you would prefer. Cesar salad is pone popular way to serve this dish up.
The basic ingredients in this recipe stay the same no matter how you top it.
Obviously, you will need some fresh Romaine lettuce. Make sure that you purchase the Romaine hearts as well.
Preparing the Romaine lettuce for this recipe is quite simple.
Start by rinsing the lettuce under cool water. Then tear off the outer leaves and discard them.
We will be grilling the Romaine lettuce in halves.
Simply use a large kitchen knife to slice the romaine lengthwise in half. The use a kitchen towel or paper towel to blot off the excess water.
There are a few additional ingredients that you may need for this recipe.
For starters you will need olive oil for grilling the lettuce. Also, for the topping, you will need ranch dressing, tomatoes, and bacon (bits work)- turkey bacon is okay.

You will need olive oil for grilling the lettuce. Also, for the topping, you will need ranch dressing, tomatoes, and cooked bacon (bits work)- cooked turkey bacon is okay.
What you will need to make this for Grilled Romaine Salad Recipe
- fresh Romaine lettuce 2 halves (one head), prepared for grilling as described above.
- Olive Oil 1 tablespoon. Additional as needed for preparing grill.
- Seasoning- ½ tablespoon per half. Can use Greek Seasoning, Italian seasoning, or a grilling seasoning for example.
- For the topping- Ranch Dressing- 1 tablespoon per Romaine half (2 tbsp total).
- Also, For the topping- Tomatoes- â…“ cup per romaine half, chopped (â…” cup total).
- And, For the topping- Bacon already cooked (bits work)- 1-2 tablespoons in bits, per Romaine half (2-4 tablespoons total, turkey bacon is okay .)
- For the topping- grated cheese- ½ tablespoon per half (1 tablespoon total). Use the cheese of your choice. I like grated Parmesan cheese. for this recipe.
Make this a Grilled Caesar Salad instead!
- For the topping- Sub in Cesar Dressing for the ranch dressing.
- Also, For the topping- top with grated Parmesan cheese.
How to make this Recipe.
As mentioned earlier, preparing the Romaine lettuce for this recipe is quite simple.
Start by rinsing the lettuce under cool water. Then tear off the outer leaves and discard them.
Next, use a large kitchen knife to slice the romaine lengthwise in half. Lastly, use a kitchen towel or paper towel to blot off the excess water.
How to grill the Romaine lettuce and make this recipe.
- Prepare the Romaine lettuce as described above.
- Brush the grill grates with olive oil and then preheat it to a medium temperature while you prepare the romaine halves. Alternatively, you can use a vegetable or grill basket on your grill.
- In a cup or small bowl, whisk together the olive oil and the seasonings. Next, brush this mixture over the over the cut side of both halves of the romaine lettuce.
- Place the romaine halves on the prepared grill grate with the cut side down. Cook this until the leaves appear to start charring or wilting. Do not flip this over to cook. Your romaine should be done cooking in 3-5 minutes depending on the fire.
- Transfer the romaine halves to a clean plate or flat surface with the grilled side up. Top the romaine halves with the remaining ingredients and serve.
