Seeing all of the strawberries popping up in the grocery stores this time of the year reminds me of this recipe for No Sugar Added Strawberry Pie.
There are so many ways to enjoy strawberries this time of the year. This is just one of those ways.
No Sugar Added Strawberry Pie
Because strawberries are already sweet in taste, there really is not a lot of need to add extra sugar to a recipe.
However, the truth is, that strawberries are rather low in sugar when compared to other similar fruits. The average strawberry has about one half gram of sugar- natural sugar- it it. Hence, eating a strawberry may be even better than we would have thought it to be.
The problem with many strawberry pie recipes is that some recipes call for sugar to be added to the pie.
Also, some pie recipes call for the frozen in sugar laden juice strawberries. I personally prefer that natural strawberry when it comes to strawberry pie.
This secret to this keeping this pie low in sugar is to make a sugar free pie crust.
Thank goodness for a strawberry pie!
For this recipe you will need a pie crust.
As already mentioned above, you can use my you can use mylow carb pie crust . However, you can also use a premade crust from your own recipe or purchase one at the store (which may or may not be low in sugar).
I use a 9″ glass pie baking plate.
Glass is my preference for pie baking. You can find a 9″ glass pie plate for baking at a good price on Amazon.
You will also need cornstarch.
Cornstarch is sugar free, thankfully. However, it is not carb free though. If you are watching your carbohydrate intake, you may want to take this into consideration.
Lastly, for best results, I use fresh strawberries.
If you cannot find the fresh strawberries, use the frozen kind. However, be sure that your frozen strawberries are not packaged in a sugary liquid as this will not only add sugar to your pie. Also, it will change the recipe consistency.
