This Sugar Free Choco Espresso Smoothie could be the perfect mid morning treat for me.
I love making this at home because I can control the sugar in it.
Sugar Free Choco Espresso Smoothie
I know that this is called a smoothie however, I think that it could also be called a shake as well.
Whatever you want to call this, it really is a yummy beverage. This smoothie is one that you could drink without having to worry about drinking a lot of sugar with it.
I have never been a huge fan of coffee.
This may seem odd considering I own a restaurant the serves a lot of it. However, when the folks who sell me specialty coffees came around I was pleasantly surprised. I quickly learned that just by mixing any kind of coffee with some kind of dairy I really can enjoy coffee. Also, I can add the dairy to my coffee without having to add a lot of sugar as well.
The ingredients that can be used in this recipe.
The basic recipe for this calls for using Greek Yogurt. I always have this on hand which is why I have added it to the list. However, you could use almond milk, condensed milk, regular milk or regular yogurt instead. You should read the label of what ever you decide to add to assure that it is sugar free or low sugar.
If you decide to add a milk alternative, such as almond milk you may want to add an additional ingredient.
The consistency that you will get from using milk will be thinner than if you had used yogurt. However, you can easily fix this. Hence, if you add a banana to your ingredient list you can thicken up your smoothie. Even better, if you add a frozen banana, you can omit some of the ice.
This recipe also calls for espresso.
Obviously, since "espresso" is part of the name of this smoothie, it is going to be in it. You can find espresso powder on Amazon that you can use in this recipe and others. I added espresso to my chocolate chip cookies and they were fabulous!
Protein powder can be used with or as a substitute for the espresso.
When my son finally moved out, he left behind a huge bag of protein powder. It was sugar free protein powder so I have added it to a lot of recipes. I made sugar free chocolate chip protein cookies as well as a sugar free protein dip with it. So, as you can see, there are a lot of options that you can try with this smoothie.
