Start by baking the cake as directed in the instructions in a 9 X 13 or similar sized cake pan. When you remove your cake from the oven, allow the cake to cool for 10-15 minutes and then poke your holes in the cake while the cake is still warm. It will be easier to poke the holes at this time. Make the holes about ½ to 1 ½ inches apart and without hitting the pan with what ever you are using to poke the holes with.
Boil your water and place the gelatin mix into a small to medium sized bowl. When the water begins to boil you can stir it into the gelatin sitting in the bowl. Continually stir or whisk the water and gelatin until they have dissolved together. Next, stir in the cold water..
For the next step we will pour the dissolved gelatin over the cake. Do this slowly and allow for even distribution of the gelatin over the cake as we need it to seep into the poked holes that we created earlier. Allow the cake completely before frosting or serving. This could take a few hours in the refrigerator to happen.
