No Added Sugar Apple Galette

No Added Sugar Apple Galette, a delicious and simple dessert recipe made with fresh apples with cinnamon baked on a whole wheat crust.

Ingredients

Crust

Filling

  • 3 Apples. -Your apples should be washed with the cores removed and then sliced to about ½-⅓" wide.
  • ¼ cup Powdered Sugar Alternative.
  • 1 tsp Apple Pie Spice.
  • 1 tbsp Lemon Juice.

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, use a whisk to combine together the flour and sugar alternative. Add the cubed butter to the bowl and use a pastry cutter (or your hands or a fork) to cut the butter into the dry ingredients until the texture resembles coarse sand or peas. Then add the apple cider vinegar and ice water and work the dough into a ball without over mixing it .
  • Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least an hour.
  • To make the filling, place your apple in a large bowl and toss it with the sugar alternative, apple pie spice, and lemon juice. Then cover the bowl and refrigerate the filling until you are ready to use it.
  • When you are ready to make your galette, line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or place the parchment paper on a flat workspace and then transfer it to the baking sheet after rolling the dough out.
  • Roll the dough out on the parchment paper (mine is a circle but, any shape can work) to about about ⅛" thick.
  • Evenly spread the filling over the dough to about two inches from the edges.
  • To fold up the sides of the galette, take a small edge of the crust and fold it over the filling. Repeat this step, folding small sections of the dough each time until the galette is formed.
  • Brush the folded crust with your milk and sprinkle or press the sliced almonds on top of it. Then place it in your refrigerator to set for 10-15 minutes.
  • Bake your galette in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until the crust turns golden brown and the filling bubbles. Let the galette cool on the pan for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
