Are you a fan of the tuna salad like I am?
The Best Tuna Salad Sandwich Ever…
I love to enjoy a simple tuna salad sandwich on a warm summer day.
Tuna salad sandwiches seem to come and go in popularity. Yet, they are always a staple when it is warm out.
There are many ways to make a tuna salad.
Some folks like the basic mayonnaise and relish recipe. This is a simple way to make tuna salad with items that you may already have in your refrigerator. It is the recipe that was so popular with folks during the mid-century with the boom of suburban kitchens.
Do you really always need to use mayonnaise in your tuna salad?
We don’t always have mayonnaise in our refrigerator these days it seems. But, we always have ranch salad dressing, usually some kind of a low fat variety. We also always have Greek Yogurt in our refrigerator.
As a result, my tuna salad is usually not a mayonnaise based salad. My tuna salad is usually made with a Greek Yogurt or low fat salad dressing base instead.
I also rarely have pickled relish on hand.
That green crunch and taste can be an essential part of a basic tuna salad. So, instead of pickled relish I will just chop up an actual pickle. Chopped celery is another great alternative for relish as well.
To egg or not to egg?
If you have a hard boiled egg on hand, it seems as if it would make a nice addition to a tuna salad. Is a chopped hard boiled egg essential to the tuna salad sandwich? I don’t personally think that chopped eggs add as much taste as they do color.
The perfect tuna salad may actually be about the secret ingredient that you add to the mix.
What secret ingredient is needed to make a perfect tuna salad? Lemon juice. A bit of lemon juice, a few drops actually, seems to add that extra taste that is needed to the usual tuna salad taste.
