How to Make Almond Flour Brownies
This is a great brownie recipe idea for anyone wanting to avoid using all purpose flour in baking homemade brownies. Using almond flour is a great alternative to the usual all purpose flour when it comes to making homemade brownies.
Did you try my recipe for the Best Sugar Free Brownies?
That very popular recipe is a sugar free brownie with an option for low carb diets.
This recipe however, is really intended for gluten free, low carb and keto diets.
I am always looking for the perfect way to store my food. Luckily, I found these genius ideas for food storage which may also be helpful for you!
People ask can I use almond flour instead of all-purpose flour.
Certainly, in a brownie recipe such as this one, almond flour work great.
I like that almond flour measures 1:1 with all-purpose flour because it means that there are few adjustments that need to be made in the other ingredients.
Almond flour is actually ground up almonds.
Once the almonds have been ground up to resemble the texture of flour, they can be easily substituted into recipes. However, you will usually need to add some kind of a binder to the recipe to account for the loss of gluten.
People also ask why is almond flour keto.
Almond flour is friendly to the keto diet because it is simply ground up nuts (almonds).
This means that it is low in carbohydrate as well as a source for protein, fat, and flavor.
Almond flour is also gluten free.
Gluten is the protein found in all purpose flour that is responsible for the ability of the flour to bind with the other ingredients. Folks who react to the gluten, gluten intolerant, use almond flour as a replacement for the all purpose flour.
Here are some tips for making brownies.
So I just mentioned that because we are using almond flour, a gluten free flour, and will need to use a binder to account for the lack of gluten in this recipe. The eggs that are added to this recipe should work at holding your brownies together.
Here are some more helpful tips for you.
- My favorite tip when it comes to brownies, is to add keto and sugar free chocolate chips for an additional chocolatey texture and taste. Chocolate chips will also make these even more fudgy too.
- Make sure that you are using a blanched almond flour rather than almond meal for best results and texture.
- Also, this recipe works best when you do not use a mixer and rather mix the batter by hand instead. This is because you do not want to over-mix this as doing so could ruin that density that makes these brownies so fudge-like.
- When mixing, changing from a whisk to spatula or wooden spoon is highly recommended in order to incorporate the dry into the wet as the mixture will be very thick.
How to store gluten free brownies.
These brownies should be stored in an airtight container and if cut, stored with parchment paper separating the pieces. They should keep for a couple of days at room temperature if stored correctly or for up to six months in the freezer (defrost before serving).

How to Make Almond Flour Brownies
- Preheat your oven to 325 and prep a baking dish for nonstick. I suggest using parchment paper that overlaps the edges of the baking pan. This will allow for both an easy clean up and for easy transferring for cutting and storing.
- Melt your butter in the microwave or on top of the stove and allow it to cool in liquid form. Meanwhile, in a medium mixing bowl, use a fork or a whisk to mix together the almond flour and the baking powder. If you are using an unsalted butter, add a pinch of salt to this bowl.
- Next, in a large mixing bowl, blend together the melted butter and the sugar alternatives. Then stir in the eggs and the vanilla.
- Now, add the dry ingredients from the first bowl to the large mixing bowl. I like to add half of the dry ingredients, stir gently and then add the remaining dry ingredients. Stir until just blended. Then fold in the chocolate chips.
- Bake until just browning around the edges, about 30-35 minutes. A toothpick check may give a false negative because of the chocolate chips. If you choose to use this method, check in several spots for more accuracy.
