Tips for making the best Chocolate Hummus

Canned chickpeas are used for convenience in this recipe. You can boil your canned chickpeas with a pinch of baking soda for 15-20 minutes to give your hummus a pudding-like texture.

    More helpful tips for you.

    1. Maple syrup is the usual sweetener that is used to sweeten hummus as it offers intense sweetness, moisture, and is vegan (this is a popular recipe with vegans). If you want to use a different sweetener stick to the liquid ones, such as honey or date syrup, as granular alternatives with make your hummus grainy instead of smooth and creamy.
    2. You can enhance the flavor of your hummus by adding extracts, such as peppermint extract, instead or with the vanilla extract. Another option is to add a half teaspoon or so of instant espresso powder (about ยฝ teaspoon) to bring out the chocolate flavor of the hummus.
    3. To thin out your add additional almond milk (or water) a teaspoon at a time until you reach your desired consistency. For hummus that is too thin you can add additional unsweetened cocoa powder. Often just refrigerating the hummus can thicken it.
