This almond butter reminds me of my sugar free peanut butter recipe.
Both recipe are easy to make and so delicious to enjoy!
There really are a lot of uses for any kind of a nut butter.
I like that I can easily spread some nut butter on some bread or toast. But, I also like that I can use this nut butter as an ingredient in other recipes too!
You may be wondering if it is actually cheaper to make almond butter yourself than to buy it already made.
Just as with so many other kinds of food that we can buy, we purchase it often out of convenience as it is easier to have someone else make it than having to make it yourself. That convenience does come with a price which can often be worth the while paying as time is money.
However, there is more to making your own almond butter than just saving a few dollars.
The first thing that comes to mind is what else is added to already made almond butter. I am referring to the sugar and or preservatives that are added to the purchased almond butter to make it taste and look better in addition to having a longer shelf life.
This has us asking, how long will homemade almond butter last.
Well, since we are not adding preservatives to the almond butter, we should take some precautions to make it last longer than a day. Throwing away almond butter that has gone bad is something that I know I do not want to have to do.
Here is what you can do to make your almond butter last .
Cover your almond butter tightly when you store it. Also, store your covered almond butter in the refrigerator. Following these suggestions can help your almond butter stick around for a couple of weeks,
Here are some tips for making your own almond butter.
This almond butter does not have preservatives added to it. This is why I just mentioned that storing the almond butter well covered in a refrigerator can help it last a couple of weeks.
Here are some more helpful tips for making your almond butter.
- Use unsalted and roasted almonds for the best results and to avoid making your butter unnecessarily salty.
- I am a huge fan of Vitamix blenders which are powerful enough to make the perfect butter of any kind! Alternatively, you can use a food processor.
- Using a neutral oil will prevent the oil from adding additional flavors (which may be unwanted) to your almond butter. Neutral oils include canola oil, safflower oil, and many vegetable oils.
Almond butter can turn out rather bland and dry.
To prevent drying of the butter from happening we are adding oil. An alternative to adding the oil is to add some honey or even honey and oil.

The recipe for Sugar Free Almond Butter
As mentioned, using unsalted and roasted almonds is recommended for this recipe. Use these almonds to avoid making your butter unnecessarily salty.

Neutral oils include canola oil, safflower oil, and many vegetable oils.
What you will need to make this Sugar Free Almond Butter
- Neutral Oil- 4 teaspoons. Neutral oils include canola oil, safflower oil, and many vegetable oils. This will be divided.
- Almonds- 2 cups. Use unsalted and roasted almonds or roast up your own raw almonds to use in this recipe.
- Honey- 1 tablespoon or as desired. This is an optional ingredient and can be added in addition to the oil or for part of the oil.
- Ground Cinnamon or
Vanilla Extract- also optional and as needed for taste.
How to make Sugar Free Almond Butter
- Use a powerful blender such as a Vitamix or another blender which is powerful enough to make the perfect butter of any kind! Alternatively, you can use a food processor.
- Add half of the oil (2 teaspoons) to the blender or food processor. Then add the almonds followed by the optional ingredients. If you are adding vanilla extract, please use 1 teaspoon.
- Process or pulse on a low speed for a minute and then increase it to high for one minute. Add the remaining oil and any additional as needed and continue to pulse or process until a paste forms. You will most likely need to stop to scrape down the sides of the container during this process. Also, to make a smoother butter simply allow it to process or pulse longer.
- Store your almond butter in an air tight container in the refrigerator.
