The Perfect Marinara Sauce With Wine
Yes, you can add wine to your Marinara Sauce.
In my opinion, it is the wine that makes this sauce really special.
It really just takes a small amount of wine to make this recipe a winner.
And of course, the delicious pasta that may go with it.
There is something about the wine that gives this such a fabulous taste.
As you may already know, Marinara sauce is a more simple sauce to make.
However, the ingredients in this sauce really make it a good one as well.
Marinara Sauce is really about the most simple in ingredients tomato sauce that you can make.
There are usually a handful of ingredients that go into a marinara sauce. This is in contrast to a standard tomato or pasta sauce that may have more a intense list of ingredients as well as cooking procedure.
The simple list of ingredients that are used in a marinara sauce are the common ones that you would expect from a sauce such as this one.
However, marinara sauce is a quickly cooked sauce that does not have to sit on the stove for hours simmering.
In the case of this marinara sauce, we will add a bit of wine to make that marriage of the delicious ingredients even better. Think of the wine that we add as the toast made to celebrate the marriage of ingredients.
You may be wondering what kind of wine to use in a recipe such as this one.
That is what is so good about a marinara sauce. Really most wines would work great in this recipe.
Both red and white wine should work great in this recipe, for the most part.
When I say 'for the most part' I mean stay away from the fortified or port wines as they may be a bit too much for this recipe.
However, a great red wine should add to the richness of taste as well as a great balance to the ingredients in this recipe. But, a white wine would certainly add that great fruit taste that would take the taste buds in a different direction.
Finding the perfect wine to add to this recipe should not be a hard task.
I would seriously start with any wine that you may have left over and sitting in your refrigerator.
But, seriously, if you are thinking about a red wine, a Cabernet or Chianti should work well.
From the white wines, a Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc are good choices.
The wine that you use in this recipe may also work for the wine that you pair your meal with.
Having said that, you can simply add the wine to the sauce and then pour some for yourself. Thus, you have a great wine influenced meal happening.
Getting back to the Marinara Sauce itself.
Marinara Sauce actually gets its name from 'Mariner' as the recipe can be traced to folks at sea who were first to enjoy this, or so the story kind of goes. However, what you may want to know is that this is a sauce with an American influence on it as those mariners were the folks traveling between Italy and the New World, aka America.
Marinara Sauce is also known to be the most vegetarian of the tomato sauces.
What I mean is, unlike other pasta sauces that we enjoy eating, this sauce does not come in a meat-based option.
Although, a bit of cheese is often added to the pot.
I mentioned that this is a pasta sauce however, there are other great uses for a Marinara Sauce.
If you have ever used a marinara sauce on your homemade pizza then you know just how good that pizza tastes. Also, this sauce makes for a great dipping sauce- think cheese sticks here!
