How to Make Applesauce Without the Added Sugar

This recipe is great for anyone wanting to enjoy applesauce without a bunch of sugar added to it.

I like knowing what exactly is in my applesauce as well.

This recipe would go great with my no added sugar apple cake.

That recipe is a delicious recipe for a cake that is based upon apples.
This recipe however, is really about the apples and how to make a sauce with them.

This recipe is for anyone who is wondering is unsweetened applesauce good for you.

I must say that if you were going to compare snacking on unsweetened applesauce as a snack compared to snacking on chips or cake, there is no question which is good for you. This is because apples have a lot of nutritional value in them.

Here is some of what is so good about apples.

Apples are a fat-free fruit that have just under 100 calories (average apple) in them.
Apples are also a good source of fiber as well as Vitamin C.

Here is how to prepare your apples to make applesauce.

Peeling the apples will make the texture of this applesauce more uniform in texture.
I would suggest peeling your apples using a vegetable peeler for this reason before adding them to this recipe.

You will also need to remove the core before you can slice up your apple.

After you have removed the core and the skin you can cut your apples into chunks.
Using an apple peeler as well as an apple corer slicer can seriously make this an easier and quicker recipe to make.

Here are some tips for making great applesauce.

I just mentioned that the apples used in this recipe should be peeled, cored, and cut up. You can make this process easier by using an apple peeler as well as an apple corer slicer to do this.

Here are some more helpful applesauce making tips for you.

    1. Use more than one kind apple to get a more flavorful sauce. For example, I like to use both sweet and less sweet apple varieties together when making applesauce because of the way that the can work together.
    2. Adding seasonings can really make this applesauce taste better and be more 'fall-like". I like ground cinnamon, nutmeg, or even apple pie spice.
    3. Using a sugar alternative is not necessary for this recipe as we can assume that the apples can take care of this on their own. However, when your applesauce is done cooking and has cooled you may want to take a taste of it to determine if it may taste a bit better with a bit of sweetener.

Everyone always seems to ask what are the best apples to use when making apple sauce?

I like to use more than one variety of apple in my sauce to make the taste a bit more personable.
This helps give the applesauce a better taste.

However, many people like to certain varieties of apples that seem to be more successful.

Among the most popular varieties of apples that can be used for sauce, you may hear about any of these:

    • Gala
    • McIntosh
    • Lodi
    • Honeycrisp
    • Jonathan
    • PaulaRed
    • Golden Delicious
    • Fuji
    • Red Delicious
    • Earligold

Some of the above apple varieties are location specific and may not be available in your neck of the woods. Obviously, this is not a complete list of apples that make the best sauce. I tend to stick with what is ripe at the time that I am making apple sauce. I also like to mix something that is a bit tart with something that may be a bit sweeter just to balance them out.

Here is how to store applesauce.

Store applesauce in a closed container, such as a canning jar , for up to a week in the refrigerator.
However, you can easily freeze your applesauce in a zip top freezer bag for later use.

This applesauce recipe sounds very quick and easy and will be made really soon in several different combinations I to follow your recipes but I rarely find myself making them as some really use ingredients I would only use once or twice. I love baking stuff but Splenda is my sugar free go to so Iโ€™m wondering if you have more simpler recipes like this? Thanks Tim
