This Almost Sugar Free Sweet Potato Pie recipe is perfect for your holiday dining table.
I was surprised that this Sweet Potato Pie can be made without all of the added sugar.
Almost Sugar Free Sweet Potato Pie
The only sugar that is in this pie comes from the sweet potato itself.
There are only about six grams of sugar per cup of cubed sweet potato.
Technically, these are sweet potatoes that are used in this recipe.
However, they will probably be labeled as 'yams'. As long as they are the orange-flesh 'yam' or sweet potato, they are good for this recipe.
Here are some of the ingredients that you will need for this recipe.
Sweet Potatoes- which you can find online (please opt for no sugar added if possible). You will also need ground cinnamon and ground nutmeg as well.

How to make Almost Sugar Free Sweet Potato Pie
- Please have your pie crust prepared and ready to go. Preheat your oven to 350.
- To prepare fresh yams, we will need to scoop the flesh out. To do so we will cook the yams in a microwave for eight minutes. First pierce your yams four times each with a fork. Microwave on high, turning the yams over midway. The yams will be hot when you remove them from the microwave so use gloves, mitts, or a towel to hold them as you cut them open and then scoop the flesh from them. Discard the skins.
- Transfer the yam flesh (or if using canned yams, simply drain and add them here) to a mixing bowl and blend with the melted butter.
- Add the remaining ingredients to the bowl and mix on medium until mixed. Then pour the mix into your pie crust.
- Bake this for 10 minutes on 350 and then decrease the temperature to 325 for 35-40 minutes or until the pie is set.
- Allow this to cool on a rack for at least an hour.

Sukrin Gold - The Natural Brown Sugar Alternative
Sukrin Gold is an all-natural, gluten free, low-calorie, low carb alternative to brown sugar with an aroma, sweetness, flavor and texture of brown sugar
This has really become my go-to brown sugar alternative. I have had luck using it in many of my recipes that call for brown sugar. I like that it is 1:1 with sugar in recipes as well.
About the product

ALL-NATURAL - Made of erythritol, stevia, malt extract, and tagatose. Non-GMO with no artificial flavors, additives, or preservatives

Sukrin:1 - All Natural Sugar Substitute
This is a 'natural' sugar alternative that is made with a blend of erythritol and less than 2% stevia. It measures 1:1 in recipes with sugar.
About the product
ZERO CALORIE SWEETENER - Regular sugar alternative with the sweetness, flavor, and texture of sugar

Swerve Granular Sweetener
I love when a sugar alternative is 1:1 with sugar. That is, if a recipe calls for one cup of sugar then you can use 1 cup of the alternative. Substituting 1:1 means maintaining a good balance with your ingredients.
The manufacturer says that the secret to Swerve’s zero-calorie sweetness is a combination of erythritol and oligosaccharides.
About this product.
MEASURES LIKE SUGAR: If your recipe calls for a cup of sugar, simply replace with a cup of Swerve. This makes it a breeze to use Swerve in your favorite recipes.
ZERO NET CARBS: The ingredients in Swerve don't affect blood sugar, so the carbohydrates it contains are considered non-impact.
KETO-FRIENDLY: Because Swerve is non-glycemic, it's the perfect sweetener to use in ketogenic recipes.
NON-GMO VERIFIED: We use only the highest quality ingredients from Europe and North America
One of the unique functions of Swerve is its ability to brown and caramelize like sugar.
With zero net carbohydrates, Swerve does not impact blood sugar or insulin levels.

When it comes to baking however, there are some other products that I use.
For cookies and other similar goodies,I use sugar free chocolate chips.
Also, you can make a recipe gluten free by using gluten free flour instead of regular flour. Or, you can make a recipe low or lower in carbs by using low carb Carbalose flour.
