    What are pupcakes?

Pupcakes are cupcakes that are made with pet-friendly ingredients that are especially enjoyable for dogs.

I like that these cupcakes are tasty to both people and pets.

Have you tried my recipe for Pumpkin Dog Treats?

Those homemade dog biscuits are made with whole wheat flour and pumpkin puree. Both this recipe for pupcakes and that recipe for pumpkin dog treats are easy to make recipes that are friendly to pets.

To make this recipe you will need peanut butter that is safe for pets. You can find a selection of peanut butter in fun flavors for pets here.

Sugar Free Frosted Pupcakes-a simple and delicious cupcake recipe that is friendly to people and pets. Made with peanut butter and oats.

Why we love cupcakes for dogs.

These cupcakes are made with healthier ingredients such as oats and banana. We also like that the ingredients are pet and human friendly.

Here is what else we like about this recipe.

    • The cupcakes are made with just six ingredients.
    • A simple two ingredient frosting that tastes delicious tops the cupcakes.
    • These homemade cupcakes are relatively inexpensive to make.
    • You can make these cupcakes in less than a half hour.
    • Personalizing these cupcakes is as easy as stirring in pet safe chips (carob) or placing an apple slice on top.
    • This pupcake cupcake is perfect for celebrations such as pet adoptions, birthdays, or even as a simple dessert idea.
Sugar Free Frosted Pupcakes-a simple and delicious cupcake recipe that is friendly to people and pets. Made with peanut butter and oats.

Ingredients needed to make pet cupcakes.

    • Oat Flour. I like an organic oat flour for this recipe.
    • Old Fashioned Oats. This helps to give the pupcakes structure and a chewy texture.
    • Peanut Butter. Use a no added sugar peanut butter that does not have xylitol added to it.
    • Banana A ripe banana that has been mashed.
    • Coconut Oil. Your coconut oil should be melted.
    • Eggs. Use room temperature eggs.
    • For the frosting you will need additional creamy peanut butter along with plain Greek yogurt.

Tips for making the best frosted pupcakes.

When looking for an oat flour, I like to use 'certified gluten-free oats'. Sometimes oats can be mixed with other ingredients during processing making them not 100% gluten free.

    More helpful tips for you.

    1. You can also make your own oat flour at home by grinding rolled oats in a good blender or food processor.
    2. It is essential that you use a creamy peanut butter that has no added sugar (such as natural, unsweetened peanut butter) and no added xylitol. Xylitol is toxic to dogs.
    3. If you want to use a substitution for the oat flour, it is best to use whole wheat flour rather than regular all purpose flour in this recipe.
    4. Depending on the size of your dog, you can use the cupcake pan of your choice. Not that baking times will vary.
    5. Allow your pupcakes to fully cool before for adding the frosting as you do not want the frosting to melt.
    6. Make sure that any added toppings, such as sprinkles or biscuits, are people and pet friendly (depending on who is enjoying it).
    7. While these pupcakes are a fun and tasty treat, it is best to limit pupcakes to one pupcake a day for a large dog and serve small dogs a smaller portion.
Sugar Free Frosted Pupcakes-a simple and delicious cupcake recipe that is friendly to people and pets. Made with peanut butter and oats.

How to make Sugar Free Frosted Pupcakes

    Prep Time: 10 mins .
    Bake Time: 15 mins .
    Servings: 6 average sized Pupcakes.

    1. Prepare. Preheat your oven to 375 and prep your cupcake pan for nonstick. Use a pet friendly nonstick (paper liners should be removed before serving).
    2. Dry Ingredients. In a medium bowl, use a whisk to combine together the oat flour and oats.
    3. Wet Ingredients. Use a mixing bowl to combine together the remaining ingredients (peanut butter, mashed banana, coconut oil, and eggs).
    4. Combine. Add the dry ingredients from the first bowl to the wet ingredients in the second bowl and mix until combined.
    5. Bake. Use a cookie scoop or spoon to scoop the batter into your cupcake pan, filling each hole about three fourths full. Then bake your cupcakes for 12-15 minutes or until the edges begin to brown.
    6. Cool. Allow the pupcakes to sit in the pan for five minutes before transferring to a cooling rack to fully cool. You can use a butter knife to help lift the pupcakes from the pan.
    7. Icing. In a small bowl combine together the frosting until combine. You can use a plastic zip top bag with a cut corner to top the pupcakes (or the method of your choice) just before serving .

Expert Tip ๐Ÿ‘‰ Baking times can vary depending on the size of your cupcake pan. It is best to check for firmness at 12 minutes. These pupcakes do not rise as there is no leavening agent added to them.

    How to store pupcakes.

Once the pupcakes have fully cooled, the unfrosted pupcakes can be stored in an airtight container. When properly stored, unfrosted pupcakes should keep for up to four days when refrigerated or up to four months when frozen. As mentioned, they should be frosted just before serving and not stored with the frosting on top.
