A 3 Ingredient Sugar Free 'Nutella' Cake that you will really enjoy.
I like that this cake is so easy to make and so easy to eat!!
3 Ingredient Sugar Free 'Nutella' Cake
This cake recipe is kind of like a cake recipe hack.
If anything, you will have something cool to brag about when you serve this cake to others.
This recipe reminds me of my Sugar Free German Chocolate Cake recipe.
Both recipes are for cakes that have a variation of chocolate flavoring. However, this cake recipe is a lot easier to make thanks to the 'Nutella' hack.
I have not found a sugar free Nutella for sale. However, you can use regular Nutella or a sugar free version of a hazelnut spread.
Even better, I have a recipe for how to make your own Sugar Free Hazelnut Spread (Copycat Nutella) that you can find here!
I always ask people what makes Nutella so good.
I mean, people seem to go nuts (pun intended?) over putting hazelnut spread on food or in recipes.
The popularity of hazelnut spread can be somewhat like a cult, which is why there is a recipe for this cake.
The truth is that I never tried Nutella itself because of the sugar that is in it.
As a result, I figured out how to make a sugar free hazelnut spread for myself.
It would seem obvious that this cake recipe would come next.
This recipe is for anyone who is asking how do you make Nutella cake from scratch .
Technically, this is not a Nutella cake but, a sugar free hazelnut spread cake. But, it is a cake that you can make from scratch.
You will need All Purpose Flour as one of the ingredients in this cake recipe.
However, you could try to make this cake recipe gluten free by using gluten free flour instead of regular flour. Or, you can make this recipe low carb by using low carb Carbalose flour.
Make this 'keto friendly' by using a keto friendly flour.
Please check the packaging to assure whether or not you will need a binder such as an additional egg.
Here are some tips for making this hazelnut spread or 'Nutella' Cake.
I just mentioned that you could try to make this cake recipe gluten free by using gluten free flour instead of regular flour. Or, you can make this recipe low carb by using low carb Carbalose flour.
Here are some more helpful tips.
- The secret to the success of this cake rally lies with the eggs that you add to it. Since we are not using a leavening agent in this recipe, we need to incorporate the air when we whisk up the eggs. In layman (or laywoman) terms, this means that you need to whisk your eggs until they triple in size, which can take from five to ten minutes to do (think stand mixer with whisk attachment!).
- I always seem to have to remind folks, as in myself especially, to resist the urge to over-mix the batter in a cake recipe such as this one. Over-mixing will cause the gluten in the flour to work even more than you want it to work in a cake. The result would be a dense cake.
- You can jazz the flavor of this cake up even more by adding a bit of extra flavor. I am referring to adding a bit of extract such as vanilla extract or banana extract (1 tsp should do it!). Adding a bit of rum is another option.
This three ingredient cake is a lot like a brownie in the way it turns out.
This gives you the option to treat it like a brownie and dress it up with some chopped nuts etc.
However, you can make this cake more like a cake by simply adding a half cup extra of the flour and cutting the eggs in half (down to two).

How to make 3 Ingredient Sugar Free 'Nutella' Cake
- It is a good idea to start by whipping or whisking up your eggs. I suggest fitting a stand mixer with whisk attachment. Then whisk the eggs until they they triple in size, which can take from five to ten minutes to do. The eggs will turn a light yellow color when they are ready. Tip: start the mixer on a low speed and increase the speed to medium as they begin to incorporate with one another.
- Preheat your over to 350. Prep a square cake pan for nonstick. I like to use parchment paper that overhangs the sides (easy to get the cake out for cutting 🙂 ).Then spray the cookie sheets with parchment with a bit of muffin pan for nonstick. You can use nonstick spray too.
- While the eggs are whisking and the oven is heating, we will need to warm up the hazelnut spread (1 cup if you are using an additional cup for a topping). In a microwave safe bowl, heat up the spread on a medium to high setting. You will need to stop and stir the spread every 15-20 seconds to stir it. It should take about one to two minutes to get warm for this recipe (not hot). Then use a fork to stir in the flour.
- When your eggs are ready remove the bowl from the mixer. Use a rubber spatula to fold in the remaining ingredients.
- Bake your cake for 30-35 minutes in the center of the oven or until a toothpick (or other tester) comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool before removing it from the pan. To top the cake with the leftover hazelnut spread, simply drizzle or swirl the spread on top.
