Tips for making the best banana ice cream.
Overnight freezing is suggested for allowing this ice cream to fully set. While you could enjoy this ice cream after about six hours of freezing, it will be a softer consistency.
More helpful tips for you.
- Using cold dairy ingredients (taken out of the refrigerator just before using) is done to keep the fat more stable when making the ice cream. This results in a creamier texture for your ice cream. You can also chill your mixing bowl, beaters, and loaf pan for the same reason as chilling your dairy ingredients.
- The more ripe your bananas are, the sweeter your ice cream will be. Ripe bananas are also softer and easier to mix with the other ingredients as well.
- The ice cream will be cold when you serve it. To make scooping the ice cream easier to do, simply run hot water over the scoop part of your ice cream scooper before serving. *Make sure that your scooper can handle the hot water before doing this.
FAQ
- Can I add walnuts, or other nuts into the ice cream?
Yes. Feel free to add chopped walnuts or peanuts into the ice cream for more of a crunch. Be sure to fold them in after the ice cream has already been beat. - Do I need a high-speed blender to make this ice cream recipe?
While a high-speed blender (like a Vitamix or Ninja) makes the process faster and easier. However, a standard food processor can also for no-churn recipes. - Can I make this recipe without the heavy whipping cream?
Absolutely! You can make a "one-ingredient" ice cream using just frozen bananas. However, adding a splash of coconut milk, almond milk, or heavy whipping cream helps the blender blades turn resulting in a much silkier, more traditional "ice cream" mouthfeel. - How do I prevent banana ice cream from turning brown?
Since bananas oxidize when exposed to air, the ice cream may brown slightly if stored for several days. A tiny squeeze of lemon juice added during the blending process can act as a natural antioxidant and keeps the color bright without changing the flavor. - Do I have to add the brown sugar alternative to the ice cream? The sugar alternative makes the ice cream more 'palatable' to some folks. Feel free to omit the brown sugar alternative or adjust the amount used.
Variations.
- Add a tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder to make this a 'chocolate' banana ice cream.
- Fold in some chopped nuts such as peanuts or pistachios for flavor and a but of crunch.
- Swap out your vanilla extract with another extract such as maple extract.

How to store homemade ice cream.
Leftover ice cream should be stored in an airtight freezer container such as an ice cream container. If properly stored, this ice cream should keep for up to a couple of months before ice crystals begin to form.
