    1. Maple syrup is used as a sweetener and for flavor. If you decide to use a sugar free maple syrup alternative, select one that measures like maple syrup and that can also be baked with.
    2. The dry and wet ingredients are mixed together to make these muffins. When combining the ingredients, mix until just combined. Even though there is no gluten in the oats, overmixing can cause large air pockets, making the muffins tough and chewy.
    3. When adding the chocolate chips and walnuts to your batter, simply and gently fold them into the batter. This will help to ensure that your muffins stay light and airy.
    4. I like to use a cookie scoop to scoop the muffin batter into the muffin cups. This also makes it easier to evenly divide the batter between the muffin liners.
    5. For added texture and flavor, you can sprinkle some extra chocolate chips or chopped walnuts on top of your muffins before you bake them.
    6. These muffins are baked through if they can spring back when lightly touched in the center. Alternatively, you can use the toothpick test however, the melting chocolate chips may give you a false result.
