Sugar Free Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Bars

This is a simple chocolate chip and oatmeal bar recipe that has no added sugar in it.

These oatmeal bars are chewy and full of great flavor!

Did you try my recipe for No sugar added oatmeal and raisin cookies?

That oatmeal and raisin cookie recipe is a popular no added sugar idea around here.
I like that both that cookie and this bar recipe have the great taste of oatmeal but, with no added sugar!

To make this recipe you will need a granular brown sugar alternative. You can find a selection of granular brown sugar alternatives here.

This recipe is especially for anyone asking what can you do with oats.

Oats, or oatmeal, is something that most everyone has in their cupboard.
While oatmeal is a common breakfast food, it also goes well in recipes such as this one.

Oatmeal brings many benefits to a recipe.
Nutritionally speaking, oatmeal is a good source of fiber, iron, Vitamin B6, as well as having certain healthy benefits. As far as a recipe goes, oatmeal brings flavor, texture, and helps to keep you feeling full.

People ask are oat bars healthy.

I always start by saying that recipes are only as healthy as the ingredients that go into them.
While this recipe has oatmeal in it, it does not have added sugar.

Sugar free chocolate chips are added to this recipe to make it more flavorful

The chocolate chips also add some texture to the bars.
Some people would argue that adding the chocolate makes oatmeal bars more enjoyable for some (kids?).

Here are some tips for making oatmeal bars.

This recipe calls for old fashion or rolled oats. Please make sure that you are using the right oats for best results.

    More helpful tips for you.

    1. This recipe calls for ¾ of a cup of butter. I love the taste of peanut butter with oatmeal and as a result, will sometimes sub in part of the added butter with peanut butter.
    2. Using two different sized chocolate chips can make this recipe for oatmeal bars even more interesting. You can also use a milk chocolate with a more loaded chocolate chip in this recipe.
    3. Add something different to your bars with or instead of the chocolate chips. I like raisins, coconut flakes, or even chopped nuts.
    4. After taking the bars out of the oven, it is a good idea to allow them to cool in the pan. This will make it easier to cut them into bars.

    How to store oatmeal bars.

These oatmeal bars should be stored in an airtight container.
If properly stored, they should keep for about a week at room temperature or for up to eight weeks if frozen.

How to make Sugar Free Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Bars

    • Preheat your oven to 325. Prep a rectangular baking pan for nonstick. I use parchment paper that slightly overhangs the edges of the pan. Then I give it a quick spray with nonstick.
    • In a medium bowl, use a whisk or fork to mix together the oats, flour, and baking soda. Then in a mixing bowl, beat together the butter with the brown sugar alternative until creamy. Add the eggs one at a time, giving a quick stir between additions. Then stir in the vanilla extract.
    • For the next step we will add the dry ingredients from the first bowl to the ingredients in the mixing bowl. Do this by adding half of the dry ingredients, then the other half. Mix the ingredients until just combined.
    • Lastly, fold in the chocolate chips. Then evenly spread the mixture into the prepared baking pan. Bake for 20-22 minutes or until the edges begin to brown. I like like to turn the pan around after about ten minutes for even baking.
    • Remove the pan from the oven and allow the bars to cool before using the extended parchment paper to life the bars from the pan to cut.
