Ingredients needed to make cranberry oatmeal cookies.

    • Flour. Regular all purpose flour was used in making my cookies.
    • Baking Soda. Added for a bit of leavening.
    • Cinnamon. Ground cinnamon adds a nice flavor accent to these cookies.
    • Butter. Your butter should be softened to room temperature. If you are using unsalted butter you can add a half teaspoon of salt to your flour.
    • Brown Sugar Alternative. Use a brown sugar alternative that measures like regular brown sugar and that can also be baked with.
    • Egg. Your egg should be at room temperature.
    • Vanilla Extract. Adds a bit of flavor balance to these cookies.
    • Oats. Old fashioned oat make these cookies chewy and flavorful.
    • Cranberries. Dried cranberries should be used.

Tips for making the best oatmeal cranberry cookies.

Old fashioned oats work best in this recipe are the oats of choice in this recipe. This is because old fashioned oats give these cookies the chewy texture that makes them so good.

    More helpful tips for you.

    1. To keep this recipe low in sugar or sugar free, make sure that you are using unsweetened cranberries.
    2. While this is optional, soaking the cranberries will make them more moist and plump. To soak them simply place them in a cup of hot water for about 20 minutes before draining the water and adding them to this recipe.
    3. Chilling the dough before baking will help the cookies keep their shape while baking. You can also slightly flatten the cookies with the palm of your hand, before baking, to flatten them out as needed.
    4. The butter should be softened to room temperature for better blending. You can also try subbing in peanut butter or another nut butter for part of the butter for more flavor.
    5. If you want the top of the cookies to show more cranberries, simply add a few dried cranberries to the top of the cookie dough balls before baking. Add them to the top and center of the cookies, as the dough will slightly spread out while baking.
    6. Lastly, add a bit of crunch to your cookies with chopped nuts. Or, you can add sugar free white chocolate baking chips for a flavor twist.

How to make No Added Sugar Cranberry Oatmeal Cookies

    Prep Time: 10 minutes .
    Bake Time: 10 minutes .
    Servings: 24 cookies .

    1. Prep. Preheat your oven to 350 and prepare your baking sheet(s) for nonstick. I like parchment paper or a baking mat for this recipe.
    2. Dry Ingredients. In a medium bowl, use a whisk to mix together the flour, baking soda, and ground cinnamon. Set this bowl aside.
    3. Wet Ingredients. Next, in a large mixing bowl, beat together the butter with the sugar alternative until creamy. Then mix in the egg and the vanilla extract.
    4. Combine. Add the dry ingredients from the first bowl to the large mixing bowl and mix until just combined. Then use a rubber spatula or similar item to fold in the oats and the raisins.
    5. Scoop. Use a medium cookie scoop to scoop the cookie dough and then place the cookies on to your prepared baking sheet(s) about one and a half to two inches apart. You can use the palm of your hands to slightly flatten the cookies if needed
    6. Bake. Bake your cookies for 8-10 minutes or until the edges begin to brown. Then remove the baking sheets from your oven and let the cookies sit for about five minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack to fully cool.

Expert Tip ๐Ÿ‘‰ Your cookies will be soft in the center when you take them out of the oven. The centers should set while the cookies are cooling on the baking sheet. Overbaking these cookies will dry them out making them crumbly and not chewy.

How to store Cranberry Oatmeal Cookies

Once these cookies have fully cooled, they should be stored in an airtight container. When properly stored, these cookies should keep for about five days at room temperature or up to three months when frozen. Adding a slice of bread to the room temperature container can help keep these cookies moist.
