I was really happy to learn how to make Sugar Free Air Fried Chocolate Donut Holes.
That is because not only is this a sugar free recipe, it can also be made in an air fryer.
Sugar Free Air Fried Chocolate Donut Holes
This is especially for those of us who enjoy making great tasting food in an air fryer.
Well, and also for those of us who like their food without a lot of sugar in it.
I must say that this air fryer dessert recipe being chocolate makes it even better, in my opinion.
However, the chocolate aspect is not the only selling point of this recipe.
You can certainly judge the finer aspects of this yummy tasting treat for yourself.
We can all possibly agree that air frying has added a great alternative to actual oil frying.
Not only do we avoid the calories that come with fried oil, we also avoid the negatives that oil frying can have on our bodies.
Air frying can really be looked at as a healthier method for making just about anything fried in oil.
I am just glad to see that there is an easy way to make my own donut holes.
It has been a while since I have eaten one of the store bought ones. This is because I am not a fan of all the frying as well as all of the sugar.
I mentioned that this donut hole recipe can be made low in carbohydrates.
We can keep the carbs low in this recipe by substituting ingredients for the ones that are high in carbs.
Instead of using regular sugared chocolate, we will use unsweetened chocolate (as in baking bars that have no sugar added to them)..
You will also need Dutch Process Unsweetened Cocoa Powder.
This is a different product from the unsweetened cocoa powder that you may be more familiar with. Please check the label on the packaging to assure that you are using the correct product.
This recipe also calls for all purpose flour.
However, substituting lower carb flours is doable as well.
To make this low carb, use a low carb all purpose flour.
Also, to make this keto use a keto all purpose flour.
Lastly, to make this recipe gluten free, use an all purpose gluten free flour.
If you are using Almond flour, please add an additional egg to the batter to aid in the binding process. I suggest anyone using any of the all purpose flour alternatives check the packaging to see if an additional egg or other binder for gluten free baking is needed as well.
While we are making these chocolate cocoa donut holes as they are, you can also add a sugar free topping to them.

- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and baking soda. Then stir in the sugar alternative and cocoa powder.
- Next, in a microwave safe bowl or mug, melt together the butter and the unsweetened chocolate. Be sure to stir every 15 seconds to make sure that they melt together evenly. Set this aside as you work to allow this to cool down.
- To the large mixing bowl from the first step, stir in the egg and yogurt. Then stir in the melted chocolate and butter. Cover the bowl and place it into the refrigerator for at least a half hour.
- To make these donut balls, remove the batter from the refrigerator and use a tablespoon to scoop out enough batter to form the donut balls in your hands. If the batter seems sticky however, you can oil your hands to make it easier to work with are add a bit extra flour.
- Lightly spray the basket of your air fryer with nonstick and preheat to 350 degrees. You may need to make more than one batch in order to keep the balls from touching in the basket. Bake these for 10-12 minutes or until they appear to be done (you can try using a toothpick to test them as it may be difficult to check for brownness due to color).
