The perfect recipe for Sugar Free Hot Cocoa Made With Stevia.
This is the perfect chocolate drink for those cold weather days!
Sugar Free Hot Cocoa Made With Stevia
For those of us who were raised in an area where winter was filled with cold days and snow filled sidewalks, you probably know all about hot cocoa.
I know that I do!
Growing up in the Midwest, playing in the snow was a fact of life.
We would come into the house with red noses and finger tips looking for something warm to hold on to.
Certainly, that warmth most likely came from holding on to a mug of hot cocoa.
The problem, as you may know, with hot cocoa is that it is usually loaded with sugar.
However, there is a way to make that hot cocoa without all of that sugar. And, this hot cocoa is not all that bad either!
A while back I did a popular post for Sugar Free Cocoa.
That was a really good recipe that allowed readers to use the sugar alternative of their choice.
However, I had many readers ask for a sugar free hot cocoa recipe that is made with Stevia. I get that as Stevia is a popular sweetener choice for folks. This recipe is an easier recipe to make as well.

What you will need to make this Sugar Free Hot Cocoa Made With Stevia.
This recipe is per serving. To make more than one serving, simply multiply your ingredients to reflect that number.
- Unsweetened Cocoa Powder- 1 tablespoon.
- Milk or similar dairy- 1 cup. You could get a richer texture with whole milk (which does have carbs) or half and half (low to no carbs). Some folks use water- which to me is not so great tasting but, it may work for you. Nut milks (cashew etc.) are other options.
- Vanilla Extract- ยฝ teaspoon. Take this recipe up a notch! Use another flavor extract such as almond extract or peppermint extract!
- Stevia Sweetener- Equivalent to 2 tablespoons of sugar. Read the label as less Stevia is usually needed than sugar is in a recipe.
How to make Sugar Free Hot Cocoa Made With Stevia.
- If you are using a granular or other kind of dry Stevia sweetener, start by combining it with the unsweetened cocoa mix in your mug. Liquid forms of Stevia sweetener can be added later on.
- In a microwave, using a microwave-safe mug or bowl, warm your dairy (milk, half and half, etc). Or, you could warm this ingredient on a stove. Usually this will take 1- ยฝ minutes on high in the microwave but, this depends on your liquid, the microwave and your personal preferences for hot.
- Pour the heated liquid/dairy into your mug and stir it into the Unsweetened Cocoa Powder. Be sure to break up any of those nasty chunks of cocoa which always seem to haunt me when I make cocoa.
- Stir in the remaining ingredients, the vanilla extract and if you are using liquid Stevia then the liquid Stevia.
- Top with Homemade Sugar Free Marshmallows or Sugar Free Whipped Cream.
