Being an apple lover, I like that there is a way to make Sugar Free Instant Pot Applesauce.

Even better, this is really just an easier way to make apple sauce as well.

Sugar Free Instant Pot Applesauce

This could be the easiest way to make applesauce in my opinion.

I like that you do not have to add sugar to the applesauce and it still tastes great!

A while back I posted a recipe for How to Make Sugar Free Applesauce.

That sugar free applesauce recipe is for a no added sugar applesauce that is made the old fashion way, over a stove.
This recipe however, is for a sugar free applesauce not made over a stove but, in a pressure cooker.

Hey, did you know that there are some really cool accessories for Instant Pots and Pressure Cookers? You can see some helpful accessories for Instant Pots and Pressure cookers here.

This recipe is for anyone who is wondering is unsweetened applesauce good for you.

I must say that if you were going to compare snacking on unsweetened applesauce as a snack compared to snacking on chips or cake, there is no question which is good for you. This is because apples have a lot of nutritional value in them.

Here is some of what is so good about apples.

Apples are a fat-free fruit that have just under 100 calories (average apple) in them.
Apples are also a good source of fiber as well as Vitamin C.

Here is how to prepare your apples to make applesauce.

Peeling the apples will make the texture of this applesauce more uniform in texture.
I would suggest peeling your apples using a vegetable peeler for this reason before adding them to this recipe.

You will also need to remove the core before you can slice up your apple.

After you have removed the core and the skin you can cut your apples into chuncks.
Using an apple peeler as well as an apple corer slicer can seriously make this an easier and quicker recipe to make.

Here are some tips for making applesauce.

I just mentioned that the apples used in this recipe should be peeled, cored, and cut up. You can make this process easier by using an apple peeler as well as an apple corer slicer to do this.

Here are some more helpful applesauce making tips for you.

  1. Use more than one kind apple to get a more flavorful sauce. For example, I like to use both sweet and less sweet apple varieties together when making applesauce because of the way that the can work together.
  2. Adding seasonings can really make this applesauce taste better and be more 'fall-like". I like ground cinnamon, nutmeg, or even apple pie spice.
  3. Using a sugar alternative is not necessary for this recipe as we can assume that the apples can take care of this on their own. However, when your applesauce is done cooking and has cooled you may want to take a taste of it to determine if it may taste a bit better with a bit of sweetener.

Everyone always seems to ask what are the best apples to use when making apple sauce?

I like to use more than one variety of apple in my sauce to make the taste a bit more personable.
This helps give the applesauce a better taste.

However, many people like to certain varieties of apples that seem to be more successful.

Among the most popular varieties of apples that can be used for sauce, you may hear about any of these:

  • Gala
  • McIntosh
  • Lodi
  • Honeycrisp
  • Jonathan
  • PaulaRed
  • Golden Delicious
  • Fuji
  • Red Delicious
  • Earligold

Some of the above apple varieties are location specific and may not be available in your neck of the woods. Obviously, this is not a complete list of apples that make the best sauce. I tend to stick with what is ripe at the time that I am making apple sauce. I also like to mix something that is a bit tart with something that may be a bit sweeter just to balance them out.

Here is how to store applesauce.

Store applesauce in a closed container, such as a canning jar , for up to a week in the refrigerator.
However, you can easily freeze your applesauce in a zip top freezer bag for later use.

Sugar Free Instapot Applesauce

Sugar Free Instapot Applesauce

The recipe for Sugar Free Instant Pot Applesauce

Earlier I mentioned that the apples used in this recipe should be peeled, cored, and cut up. You can make this process easier by using an apple peeler as well as an apple corer slicer to do this.

Also mentioned was that adding seasonings can really make this applesauce taste better and be more 'fall-like".

I like ground cinnamon, nutmeg, or even apple pie spice.

Ingredients needed to make this no sugar added applesauce in a pressure cooker, one pot, or Instapot.

  • Apples- 6 pounds. That is about 24 small or 12 large apples. Use a variety of flavors (tart and sweet for example) for more flavor.
  • Water- ½ cup. Now some folks will sub in apple juice or apple cider here. However, keep in mind that these often have added sugar in them.
  • Seasonings- 1 to 2 teaspoons total. I like ground cinnamon, nutmeg, or even apple pie spice.
  • Optional- sugar alternative as needed.

How to make Sugar Free Instant Pot Applesauce

You will need a six quart cooker to make this. If yours is not this large, consider cutting the ingredients in half.

  • Prepare your apples by peeling them, removing the core, and then chopping them into chunks. You can make this process easier by using an apple peeler as well as an apple corer slicer to do this. Then place the apples into the cooker.
  • Pour the water over the apples. Then you can lock the lid and set the valve to seal.
  • Set the cooker to manual and high pressure for five minutes. (It will take about 10 minutes to get to pressure).
  • Allow the pressure to release for 20 minutes and then manually release the pressure that is remaining.
  • You can taste the applesauce and add any seasonings or sugar alternatives as needed. Tip: if your applesauce is too chunky for your taste, simply use an immersion blender to puree it.
  • Store your applesauce in a closed container, such as a canning jar , for up to a week in the refrigerator
