Air Fried Sugar Free Chocolate Souffle
The perfect recipe idea for when you are not interesting in warming up your oven.
I like the ease of using an air fryer for this recipe as well.
We use our air fryer all of the time.
By "we" I also mean that my husband has an affinity for this inexpensive toy of ours.
You can easily find an affordable air fryer online which makes them even nice to own and use.
There is really something impressive about telling people that you made a 'souffle'.
This could be because souffle a French dish which can make people think that it is both sophisticated and luscious to eat.
I bet that the thought of Julia Child may have even crossed your mind reading this. 🙂
This souffle dessert is even better, in my opinion, because it is chocolate.
I happen to be a big fan of chocolate. Especially when it comes in a ramekin just for me.
Making this souffle chocolate is just part of the fun.
However, being able to make this savory dessert in individual servings, makes it even better.
This is because you simply have to make the souffle batter, pour it into a ramekin, bake and serve them.
There is no cutting of the cake or anything else involved.
Make this easy chocolate souffle in a ramekin.
While I would suggest a five ounce ramekin, you should also consider the size of your air fryer when it comes to choosing the best size for your needs.

Finding a dark sugar free chocolate chip is not easy but, you can find them online. We will be melting the chocolate making the chips a good size. There are not a lot of sugar free bar choices like there are with sugar, in case you were wanting to use a chopped bar.
What you will need to make this Air Fried Sugar Free Chocolate Souffle
While I would suggest a five ounce ramekin, you should also consider the size of your air fryer when it comes to choosing the best size for your needs.
- Butter or Oleo- as much as you need to coat your ramekins with to prep them for nonstick. Obviously, this should be as soft as possible if not lightly melted.
- Sugar Alternative- 1 tablespoon for each ramekin as we will be coating them as part of the prep. Use granular that measures 1:1 with sugar for best results.
- Sugar Free Chocolate Chips- ¼ cup. For this recipe, I suggest using dark sugar free chocolate chip .
- Butter- 1 ½ tablespoons.
- Flour- 1 tablespoon (AP). Make this recipe gluten free by using gluten free flour instead of regular flour. Or, you can make this recipe low carb by using low carb Carbalose flour. Make this 'keto friendly' by using a keto friendly flour.
- Milk- â…“ cup. You milk should be 'just out of the fridge' cold. You could use a nut milk such as almond milk, however, the batter may be a bit thin as a result.
- Vanilla Extract- ½ teaspoon.
- Egg Yolk- 1.
- Egg Whites- 2 (Yes, you will have to find a use for that left over egg yolk.)
- Cream of Tarter- ½ teaspoon. This will help keep our egg whites well-aired.
- Sugar Alternative- 1 tablespoon. Again, use a granular that measures 1:1 with sugar for best results.
How to make Air Fried Sugar Free Chocolate Souffle
- For the prep work, we will 'grease' each of the ramekins with the softened butter or oleo. Then sprinkle them with the granular sugar alternative (1 tablespoon at the most per ramekin), until they are covered. You may need to rotate the ramekin to disperse the sugar alternative more evenly. Also, warm your air fryer on a low setting (325-330).
- Next, we will melt the chocolate. Use a microwave safe bowl (medium sized) to microwave, stirring every 30 seconds until melted. Alternatively, and actually preferably for the chocolate, use a double boiler method with simmering water on the bottom of the bowl. The bowl that holds this melted chocolate have additional ingredients added to it in later steps.
- Now, we will melt that 1 ½ tablespoons of butter over low-medium heat. Use a small sized skillet. When the butter has melted you can whisk in the flour. It will take this a few minutes to thicken but, keep whisking until it does. When it does thicken you can remove this skillet from the heat.
- You will be multi-tasking in this step. We will be combining the ingredients in the melted chocolate bowl while you whip your egg whites. Place the egg whites and the cream of tarter in a stand mixer with a whisk attachment. While the egg whites are whisking in order to form peaks, you can return to the butter and flour mixture. Add the melted butter and flour mixture to the melted chocolate and blend. Then stir in the egg yolks, vanilla extract and remaining sugar alternative. Watch the mixer with the egg whites. Once you get peaks forming in the egg whites you can stop the whisking and gently fold the egg whites into the bowl with the other ingredients.
- Fill the ramekins with the batter about ¾ full. Then run your finger around the lip of the ramekin (a trick some folks use). Bake the souffles for 12-14 minutes or until done.
