It just seemed like it was time to post a recipe for Low Carb Air Fried Mushrooms.
This is because air fryer recipes seem to be a thing around here lately.
Low Carb Air Fried Mushrooms
This is an easy way to eat your battered mushrooms without all of the carbohydrates.
Personally, I like that I do not have to deal with oil and batter frying anything in this recipe.
Fried mushrooms are a really popular appetizer or bar snack.
Somehow I think that some folks are justifying their quest for crunch by using a vegetable in their fried batter.
I know that I have thought this too in the past.
If you are like me then you probably believe that using an air fryer to make breaded mushrooms is a healthier way to eat.
It seems as if air frying anything is a healthier way to make it especially when compared to deep frying in oil.
Hence the reason for the growing popularity of air fryers.
I must say that air fryers have come a long way since I first purchased mine a while back.
For one thing, air fryers have come down in price since I bought mine. However, air fryers are also doing more than just doing the basic set the time and temperature like my air fryer does right now.
Perhaps, what makes this recipe even more likable is that it is a recipe for Low Carb Air Fried Mushrooms.
Sure, anyone can make air fried breaded mushrooms. However, not everyone is making those breaded mushrooms without a bunch of added carbohydrates in them.
I should start out by mentioning that mushrooms net under a half carb per average mushroom.
Also, mushrooms are really low in calories. It is no wonder why mushrooms are seen as a 'free food' on so many diet plans.
To make these low in carbohydrate sticks we will use a low carb all purpose flour instead of all purpose flour.
When choosing your low carb flour alternative, please make sure that it is not a baking mix as a baking mix will have additional ingredients added to it. Also, if you are using a gluten free option (such as almond flour), you may need to add an extra egg or some kind of a binder.
My choice for low carb flour is Carbalose flour.
I use carbalose flour because unlike similar products, it is made mostly from wheat, yet it lacks most non fiber carbohydrates
We will also need to use an alternative for bread crumbs.
You can find low carb bread crumbs or alternatives for low carb bread crumbs online.
Another option would be to make your own low carb bread crumbs.
Simply make your own low carb bread or buy low carb bread online. Toast the bread and allow it to cool and thoroughly dry out. Then place the toasted bread in a blender or food processor to make the crumbs.
For the mushrooms in this recipe, I suggest using whole white mushrooms.
Leave the stems on the mushroom if you would like to make dipping into sauces easier to do. Also, prepare your mushrooms by wiping them with a clean dish towel or paper towel to remove the dirt.

How to make Low Carb Air Fried Mushrooms
- I like to give my air fryer basket a quick spray with nonstick before I use it. Preheat your air fryer to 360 while you work.
- We will set up the dredging station using two shallow bowls. In the first bowl, whisk together the flour alternative, bread crumbs, and seasonings. In the second bowl, beat together the eggs and water.
- I suggest using a fork to dredge each individual mushroom first in the liquid bowl (allow to drip over that bowl and then proceed) then through the dry ingredient bowl. Flick off any excess dry ingredients. Then place each mushroom into the air fryer basket. Do not overlap mushrooms. You will probably need to make more than one batch of mushrooms.
- Air fry each batch for 8-10 minutes or until the appear to be browning and crunchy (done).
