Low Carb Shrimp Lettuce Wraps are really an easy and tasty alternative the usual salad or sandwich.

I like that these wraps are great as an appetizer or as part of a meal!

    Low Carb Shrimp Lettuce Wraps

    Low Carb Shrimp Lettuce Wraps

An easy and delicious way to eat both lettuce and shrimp.

This is a great idea for parties, gatherings, and tailgates.

This recipe does remind me of my Easy Low Carb Shrimp Taco Recipe.

That recipe featured several alternatives for a wrap in which to hold the shrimp and other ingredients in.
However, this recipe is really more about the shrimp and the lettuce that is used to hold it with the other ingredients.

I have the perfect drink to go with this recipe for shrimp wraps. Check out my Keto, Low Carb, and Sugar Free Margarita recipe. This drink can also be made without adding the alcohol.

You are probably wondering what lettuce is best for wraps.

Certainly, not every kind of lettuce would work in a wrap.
This is because the lettuce is used to hold the ingredients and not every kind of lettuce can do this.

The best kind of lettuce to use in a wrap should be both large enough to hold the ingredients and sturdy enough to keep everything together.

For this reason. I like a bibb lettuce.
Other suitable kind of lettuce include butter lettuce and possibly romaine leaves (yes, I have successfully used romaine in the past).

We all seem to wonder how do you keep lettuce wraps from falling apart.

I can attest to this question because I own many shirts with stains on them. Food just seems to do what it wants to do when you least expect it to sometimes...

So here is how to keep the food in the lettuce.

Start by not trying to add too much food to your wraps (you can use a fork or your fingers to eat more).
Also, tucking the bottom part of the lettuce in while for make the wrap (thus making a pocket) is also helpful for keeping the food together.

Here are some tips for making wraps.

I just mentioned that using bibb or butter lettuce is best as these varieties of lettuce are both large enough and sturdy enough to hold on to the ingredients. Also, not over-packing the wraps and making a pocket with the bottom of the lettuce helps to keep the wraps from falling apart.

Here are some more helpful tips for you.

    1. I love this wrap idea especially for parties, gatherings, and tailgates. Placing a piece of parchment paper under or around each wrap is an easy way to serve as well as eat these wraps.
    2. Make these wraps vegan by subbing in other ingredients for the shrimp. Using tofu or portobello mushrooms are two of my favorite ideas.
    3. This is really for a basic shrimp lettuce wrap. However, you can easily make these Asian influenced by adding a bit of ginger, soy sauce, or an Asian sauce to your wraps (watch the carbs however).

Here is how to make an easy peanut sauce for dipping shrimp wraps in.

While you could simply dip these wraps in your favorite dressing, dip, or nothing, peanut sauce is also a viable alternative for dipping.
Simply whisk or blend together ยฝ cup of creamy peanut butter, ยผ cup of water, 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, ยฝ tablespoon of ginger, 2 teaspoons of minced garlic, and 2 teaspoons of rice vinegar (adjust with sugar alternative, maple syrup or honey as needed).

The recipe for Low Carb Shrimp Lettuce Wraps

Earlier I mentioned that using bibb or butter lettuce is best as these varieties of lettuce are both large enough and sturdy enough to hold on to the ingredients. Also, not over-packing the wraps and making a pocket with the bottom of the lettuce helps to keep the wraps from falling apart.

Also mentioned was a recipe for a simple, yet optional, peanut sauce.

The ingredients needed to make shrimp wraps.

    • Shrimp- 1 pound. I like medium or large shrimp. Please have your shrimp peeled and deveined.
    • Olive Oil- 2 tablespoons, divided.
    • Garlic- 2 cloves minced.
    • Seasonings- 3-4 teaspoons or as desired. This can include Italian Seasonings, Salt,
and/or Pepper. Also Mediterranean Diet Seasoning Blend or Cilantro Lime seasoning.
    • Lettuce- Bibb, Butter, or Romaine.
    • Avocado- 1 sliced or cut up into chunks.
    • Optional- vegetables such as cherry tomatoes or peppers, as desired.

How to make Shrimp Lettuce Wraps

    • Prepare the shrimp by removing the tails and veins. I like to rinse my shrimp as well. Place the shrimp in a large zip top bag(s) or similar container.
    • In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together one tablespoon of the olive oil with the minced garlic and seasonings. Pour this over the shrimp, zip the top of the bag, and toss as needed to cover the shrimp. Then refrigerate the bag with the shrimp for at least 20 minutes.
    • When you are ready to cook the shrimp, heat the remaining olive oil in large skillet. Cook the shrimp until they turn pink, flipping as needed, (should take about four to five minutes)
    • To assemble your wraps simply place the cooked shrimp with the other ingredients on top of lettuce leaves. Add the remaining and any optional ingredients as desired along with any additional seasonings.
    • Serve with low carb salad dressing or dipping sauce or as desired.
