Sugar Free Chocolate Filled Donut Holes

This is a recipe for making baked donut holes that have no added sugar.
After being baked, the holes are filled with either melted chocolate or a hazelnut spread.

Did you try my Sugar Free Air Fried Chocolate Donut Holes?

That is another recipe for donut holed that I have posted.
While that sugar free donut hole recipe is chocolate and made in an air fryer, this recipe is filled with chocolate and baked.

To fill these donut holes with yummy goodness, you will need a piping bag. You can find a selection of piping bags here.

You may be wondering why are they called donut holes.

There really are two main theories on how donut holes got their name.
A popular theory is that donut makers had extra dough left over after making a hole in a donut and needed a use for it.

However, there are those who stand behind the theory that they are actually called "dough-nut holes" and in fact, have nothing to do with donuts.

There are those who also will argue that donuts do not always have holes in the center to have extra dough left over.
As long as we get a yummy treat to eat, called donut holes, I am not too concerned how that got that name...

I sometimes have to giggle when someone asks how do you put donut filling in.

For the longest time, I myself wondered the same thing.
Do the people who bake the donuts put the filling into the center before they fry the donuts?

Donuts, and donut holes, get their filling thanks to using a pastry bag.

Please do not be afraid to use a pastry bag as they can seem intimidating at first.
Pastry bags are actually easy to use and, they are very impressive to others asking how the filling got into those donut holes.

Here are some tips for making filled donut holes.

These donut holes can be filled with melted sugar free chocolate or a (see my recipe for sugar free hazelnut spread) hazelnut spread (like a Nutella with no added sugar). You can find sugar free hazelnut spread for sale here.

    More tips for you.

    1. These donut holes are coated with a sugar free version of cinnamon sugar. You can make this by combining a granular sugar alternative with ground cinnamon.
    2. Make these donut holes keto low carb diet friendly. Swap in a low carbohydrate baking mix for the flour, salt, and baking powder.
    3. I recommend that you spray coat these and fill them while they are still warm just out of the oven. This is because the baked dough is so much easier to work with while warm.

How to store baked donut holes.

These donut holes should be stored in an airtight container.
I would refrigerate these as they are filled and should keep for about five days.
