    This is the recipe for Sugar Free Cocoa Buttercream Icing.
    I am so glad that this is a recipe that we can make sugar free as well.

    Sugar Free Cocoa Buttercream Icing

    I should mention at this time that this is really a frosting and not an icing.
    People seem to use these terms interchangeably.

    The is a difference between frosting and icing.
    Icing tends to be more condensed and used for decorating a cookie or similar baked good. However, frosting is a fluffier topping that really accentuates the great taste of a cake or a cupcake. Personally I like them both but, will use each specifically for it's specific purpose.

    The recipe for Sugar Free Cocoa Buttercream Icing

    Here is what you will need to make this recipe.

    • Butter- 6 tablespoons softened to room temperature.
    • Sugar free powdered sugar- 2 โ…” cup. Make your own powdered sugar using this recipe or buy sugar free powdered sugar online here.
    • Unsweetened cocoa powder- โ…“ cup.
    • Vanilla extract- 2 teaspoons.
    • Milk or cream- 1 ยฝ tablespoons.

    How to make Sugar Free Cocoa Buttercream Icing

    • Add the softened butter to a mixing bowl and creme it if not yet cremy.
    • In a separate bowl, blend together the unsweetened cocoa and sugar free powdered sugar.
    • Slowly add the dry ingredients from the second bowl to the first bowl and blend. Then stir in the vanilla extract.
    • Add the milk or creme to the mixing bowl and mix on low until blended. If your frosting appears to be too thick for your needs simply add a few more drops of milk and blend. However, do not over mix the frosting as this may cause some separation.

      Not only does my dad have type 2, but we can all use a little less sugar at times.

      I'd love to try this! I'm wondering if that much Splenda would be very expensive, but it would be worth it to have a treat once for a diabetic relative.
