Sugar Free Strawberry Frozen Yogurt
The perfect (healthy) dessert that you can make yourself.
What I like is that I know every ingredient that goes into this recipe.
I know that I have posted popular recipes for sugar free ice cream that you may have already tried.
Like with this recipe, my sugar free blueberry ice cream recipe also includes fruit.
But, the difference between the two recipes is that this one is based on yogurt.
Going on a brief tangent.....I like making my own ice rather than using my ice maker. Here is one reason why I like making my own ice.
There are some super cool ice cube trays that make drinking everything more fun!
So you may be wondering, can you just freeze yogurt to make frozen yogurt.
I know that this is an easy recipe but, simply putting yogurt into the freezer may not hail the best dessert.
The problem with placing a tub or container of yogurt in the freezer and expecting to come out as frozen yogurt is that is contains a lot of water and you will probably just get a giant frozen yogurt ice cube and not that yummy dessert that you were craving.
You could use actually still make a frozen yogurt dessert from just yogurt.
One way to do this is to simply freeze the yogurt but, not for more than two hours. Another way to do make frozen yogurt from just yogurt is to drain the water from the yogurt (good luck!) and then freeze the yogurt.
I have always wondered if frozen yogurt Sugar Free?
Obviously, a recipe has sugar in it if the sugar is added to it.
Usually, the sugar that is added to a recipe such as this one, also adds texture in addition to the sweet taste.
This sweet taste in this recipe comes from natural sources.
The strawberries in this recipe add both the flavor and the sweetness.
You can also add additional, yet recommended sugar alternative or honey as I will explain.
Here are some tips for making your Sugar Free Strawberry Frozen Yogurt
I just mentioned that adding sugar alternative or honey as an optional ingredient can help this recipe taste more sweet. I also mentioned that draining the yogurt is one way to get a frozen yogurt that is a better texture like an ice cream has.
Here are some more helpful tips for making your own frozen yogurt.
- Prepare your strawberries by hulling them and then chopping them up. To remove the hulls you can use a strawberry huller or a straw. Then freeze them to make this recipe.
- To make this in an ice cream maker, simply mix the ingredients as directed in this recipe. Transfer the mixture in the refrigerator for about an hour. Then follow the directions on your machine to make your frozen yogurt.
- This recipe is made with strawberries. However, feel free to use another fruit instead. Blueberries are also a good choice for example.
- You can make this recipe in a blender, food processor, or what I use, a Vitamix.
What kind of yogurt works best when making frozen yogurt anyway?
I really like the healthy benefits associated with Greek Yogurt.
However, regular plain or vanilla yogurt will probably be easiest in this recipe because of the consistency in them.

The recipe for Sugar Free Strawberry Frozen Yogurt
As mentioned, the strawberries in this recipe add both the flavor and the sweetness.
You can also add additional, yet recommended sugar alternative or honey as I will explain.
Also mentioned is that you can feel free to use another such as blueberries in this frozen yogurt recipe.
You can make this recipe in a blender, food processor, or what I use, a Vitamix.
What you will need to make this
- Strawberries- 4 ½ cups. Prepare the strawberries by hulling them and then chopping them up. To remove the hulls you can use a strawberry huller or a straw. Then freeze them to make this recipe
- Plain or Vanilla Yogurt- 1 ½ cups. If you choose to use Greek Yogurt, use 1 cup of yogurt+ ¼ cup of milk that has some fat in it. Half and Half may also work in this recipe (have not tried it myself).
- Vanilla Extract- 1 teaspoon.
- Optional- honey or sugar alternative equivalent to 1-2 tablespoons of sugar.
How to make Sugar Free Strawberry Frozen Yogurt
- Prepare the strawberries as indicated above. Hull and then chop up the strawberries and then place them into the freezer to freeze.
- Combine together the yogurt, strawberries, vanilla extract, optional sweetener and yogurt in the blender or food processor. Puree the ingredients until the mixture is a smooth consistency. This should take one to two minutes most likely. You may need to stop the machine to scrape the sides of the container.
- Transfer the mixture to a freezer container such as one of these. Freeze until the mixture reaches a frozen consistency- about an hour.
- Allow the frozen mixture to sit out for 10-15 minutes before serving.
- To make this sugar free frozen yogurt in an ice cream maker, skip the freezer and place the mixture in the refrigerator for an hour. Then follow the manufacturers instructions to finish the frozen yogurt.
