Have you tried my original recipe for homemade Crab Rangoon?
That recipe is also made in an air fryer and is easy to make.
This recipe is a bit different as it has been adjusted to satisfy gluten free, sugar free, keto and low carbohydrate diets.

I like to refer to this as a 'skinny and tasty' Crab Rangoon made in air fryer
This is because this recipe has really cut out a lot of what makes something not so skinny.
Using an air fryer rather than a frying in oil is probably the biggest diet violator that I can mention.
You can make this recipe even more 'skinny' by adjusting a couple of ingredients.
Using a lower fat cream cheese instead of the regular cream cheese is possible but, it can have an effect on the texture. Also, you can use low carb wonton wrapper (such as coconut wrappers) instead of the usual wonton wrappers.
People ask what is the difference between Crab Rangoon and Fried Wonton.
Yes, the two may seem to be very similar.
I mean, they are both popular appetizers in a wrapper and found on Chinese restaurant menus.
But, there is a difference between Crab Rangoon and Fried Wontons.
Crab Rangoon are wrappers stuffed with crab meat and fried. Wontons on the other hand, are stuffed with sometimes crab but more often other ingredients. Also, wontons are sometimes fried but, are more commonly boiled as dumplings.
Here are some tips for making air fryer Crab Rangoon.
While we are not frying these Rangoons in oil, it is a good idea that you spray the outsides of the Rangoon with a bit of sprayed oil before air frying them. This will help them get crisp as well as add flavor.
Here are some more helpful tips for you.
- Working in batches is a good idea. The Rangoon should have plenty of space between them while they cook. Also, it takes about ten minutes to air fry each batch, allowing you enough time to make a second batch while the first one cooks..
- Wetting your fingers with a bit of warm water can help keep the wrappers from sticking to your fingers while you work. You can keep a small bowl of warm water nearby for dipping your fingers into.
- It is a good idea to keep the amount of ingredients added to each wrapper minimal when you start out. This will make it easier for you to get use to wrapping the ingredients and avoid overfilling them.
Yes, low carb wonton wrappers do exist.
This is something new and you can find a variety of low carb wonton wrappers here.
Another options is to use regular low carb wraps, making sure that they are soft for wrapping.

The recipe for Low Carb Air Fried Crab Rangoon
This recipe should make as many as 30 Rangoons.
The amount of Crab Rangoons that you make will depend on how large your wrappers are however.
You can use regular wonton wrappers to make this recipe.
However, for low carbohydrate Crab Rangoons you can use low carb wonton wrapper (such as coconut wrappers) instead of the usual wonton wrappers.
Ingredients needed to make low carb or keto Crab Rangoon
- Cream Cheese- 8 ounces. The cream cheese should be softened to room temperature.
- Crab Meat- 6 ounces. You can find 6 ounce cans of crab meat here.
- Low Sodium Soy Sauce- 2 teaspoons. Yes, you can use the regular soy sauce if you do not mind all of the salt.
- Green Onions- 2 tablespoons chopped. That is about one average sized green onion chopped. I would not substitute in another kind of onion except for scallions as the green onion has a specific taste that is needed in this recipe.
- Small low carb wonton wrappers- as needed.
- Low Carb Chili Sauce for dipping.
How to make Low Carb Air Fried Crab Rangoon
You will need a clean work area to make this recipe. I like a kitchen counter or table lined with a sheet of parchment paper.
The directions.
- Preheat your air fryer to 370 and give the basket a quick spray with nonstick.
- If your crab meat is not chopped, you can put it through a food processor to get it to a good size or chop it by hand.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, crab meat, Soy Sauce, and green onions until combined. You could use a mixer or processor to do this but, mixing by hand will give you better control over the texture of the end result.
- Place a small bowl with warm water by your work area. Then place six wonton wrappers on the work area. Spoon one teaspoon of the cream cheese mixture into the center of each wrapper. First dip your finger into the bowl of warm water and then wet the sides of each wrapper with your wet finger. This will make it easier for you to crimp the corners of each wrapper into the center to close the Rangoons. To close the Rangoon, pull together the middle of the sides of the wrapper, close the sides together while letting all the air escape.
- Lightly spray each rangoon with oil and place into the air fryer basket, allowing room between each Rangoon. Air fry for eight to 10 minutes or until done. Repeat until you have air fried all of the Rangoons.
- You can freeze the assembled and uncooked Rangoons for later air frying. Allow them to get to room temperature before air frying.
