What you will need to make a Crustless Apple Pie
- Apples. Your apples should be peeled, cored and sliced. It is easiest to core then slice in half. Then cut the slices in half again and slice the pieces about ½" thick.
- Sugar Alternatives. My recipe uses brown sugar alternative and white sugar alternative. When selecting a sugar alternative, select ones that can be baked with. Feel free to use only brown or only white granular sugar alternative as well.
- Spices. The spices used in my crustless pie include Ground Cinnamon and Nutmeg.
- Butter. This adds that richness to the pie that you would expect. You butter should be melted and it will be divided.
- Oats. Rolled or Old Fashioned Oats work best in this recipe.
Expert Tip 👉 You may need to adjust the sweetness of this recipe depending on the sweetness of the apples used and your personal preferences.

How to make a Crustless Apple Pie
- Start by preheating your oven to 350 and prepping your 9" pie pan/plate/dish for nonstick. Greasing works best for me.
- Arrange your apple slices in the prepped pie dish so that they are able to both bake and brown as evenly as possible. My apples were arranged in a circular path.
- In a medium mixing bowl, use a whisk to combine together the sugar alternatives along with the cinnamon and nutmeg. Then, pour half of the melted butter into the mixing bowl and whisk until combined. Evenly distribute this over the apples in the pie dish.
- Next, in another bowl, combine together the remaining butter with the oats to make the topping. You can add additional spices or sugar alternative as desired. Sprinkle this over the apples in the pie dish.
- Bake until apples are tender and topping is golden brown (about 45-50 minutes).
- You can serve this warm or cold or in my case, both! 🙂

Tips for making the best crustless pie.
My recipe calls for using both a sugar and a brown sugar alternative in order to get a more authentic apple plie flavor. You can however, use honey or maple syrup (making adjustments as needed).
More helpful tips for you.
- The topping on this recipe is made with oats in order to get a chewy texture. You can try making this with flour or a flour alternative if desired.
- When I bake with apples, I usually like to use a variety of apples for better flavor. Use a variety of apples. This will give your pie a more complex flavor. I like Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Golden Delicious for a baked dessert such as this one..
- When baking the pie, bake it until the apples are tender and the oat topping is golden brown and crisp. Overbaking this crustless pie can make the apples mushy and more like an applesauce.
How to store a crustless pie.
Once the pie has fully cooled you can store it in an airtight container. If properly stored, it should keep for about three days refrigerated or frozen for up to a couple of months.
