Sugar Free Apple Tarts are easy to make and taste so good too!

Sugar Free Apple Tarts
This recipe is also a vegan apple tart recipe.
There is no added sugar and no added dairy products in this apple dessert recipe.

However, this baked apple dessert recipe is made in individual servings while that pie recipe is for an entire 'pie'.
This recipe calls for sliced apples that are shaped as a rose. To do this you will need to slice the apples very thin. I suggest using a mandoline slicer to make apple slices that are no larger than ยผ" wide.
You may be wondering how is this a 100% sugar free tart.
Apples do have natural sugar in them.
There are about 19 grams of natural sugar in the average apple.

This means, according to the experts, apples have a small effect on blood sugar.

These apple tarts with puff pastry are really easy to make.

The puff pastry will serve as kind of a cup to hold the apple sliced.
Puff pastry that is vegan is not hard to find and is in most grocery stores.

Look for ingredients such as eggs or the source of the fat that is used to make it.

I suggest thawing the vegan puff pastry for at least two hours before making this recipe.

How to prepare the apples for individual apple tarts
First off, the best kind of apples to use in this recipe are the firmer and more tart apples.
This includes Granny Smith, Jonathan Gold, Honeycrisp, and even McIntosh would work in this recipe.
Here is how to prepare the apples.
I like to first wash my apples since we are keeping the skin on them.
Then use a mandoline or similar items to slice the apples as thin as possible (less than ยผ").
Ingredients needed to make
- Vegan Puff Pastry- 1 sheet.
- Apples-2, medium sized. Suggested varieties listed above. The apples should also be sliced as indicated above.
- Lemon Juice- ยฝ lemon (about 2 ยฝ tablespoons). Please use fresh lemon juice or lemon juice with no added sugar.
- Ground Cinnamon- 1 tablespoon.
- Sugar Alternative- 2 tablespoons. You can use a brown sugar alternative or white alternative. Please use the equivalent to 2 tablespoons of sugar.
- Optional- sugar free powdered sugar for dusting.
How to make Apple Tarts with No Added Sugar.
- Remove the puff pastry from the freezer at least two hours ahead of making this recipe to thaw out. Also, prepare the apples as indicated above.
- Place the apples in a mixing bowl and toss with the lemon juice. Then add the ground cinnamon and the sugar alternative and lightly toss again.
- Transfer the apple mixture to a saucepan over medium heat. Cook the apples until softened, about 10-12 minutes. You will need to gently mix or flip the apples a few times to avoiding burning. Once the apples have softened, you can remove them from the heat.
- Next, preheat the oven to 375 and prep a muffin pan for nonstick.
- To prepare the pastry puff, roll it out on a flat and clean surface. Then cut the puff dough into five strips. One the bottom half on the long sides of each of the strips you can arrange the cut apples. Allow about a half inch of each apple piece to hang outside of the dough. Then fold the empty side of the dough up roll up the pastry sheet to form the rose. Place in a muffin cup for baking.
- Bake in the oven for 20 minutes. Then remove the tarts from the oven, let cool and sprinkle with powdered sugar(optional).
