I am mentioned that chocolate covered candy recipe not just because it reminds me of this one. It is because the two keto treats would certainly look good when presented together on a serving plate (or eaten...).

This recipe is especially for anyone asking what exactly is a truffle?
It is easy to confuse this kind of a truffle with the mushroom-like fungus truffle. If you were to ask me, I think that these chocolate truffles look like doughnut holes (bear with me here...).
Truffles actually got their name because they resemble, but are not made with, those truffles that look like mushrooms.
To actually define 'truffle' I would have to tell you that they are usually round, are made with heavy cream and chocolate, and are dusted with unsweetened cocoa powder. However, this definition can also differ depending on the truffle.
You may be wondering what can I eat sweet on a keto diet.
Keto, sugar free, and low carbohydrate diets are known as diets that avoid sugar.
However, we are using sugar alternatives in this recipe for chocolate truffles.
Don't like the unsweetened cocoa powder that covers these truffles?
You can dip your formed truffles into a sugar free ganache (here is how to make sugar free ganache) using a fork. Then allow the truffles to set on a sheet of wax paper.
Here are some tips for making truffles.
I just mentioned that the truffles in this recipe are coated with unsweetened cocoa powder. However, you could alternatively dip your truffles in sugar free ganache for a chocolate coating instead.
Here are some more helpful tips.
- Dipping the truffles into the cocoa powder can be a challenge. I suggest using a fork in one hand to hold the truffle. Then use another fork or a spoon with the other hand to help hold the truffle in place as well as guide it and the cocoa powder.
- This truffle recipe is made using sugar free keto friendly chocolate chips. You could however, use sugar free white chocolate chips instead of the chocolate ones or as a drizzle on top.
- Make your truffles more interesting by adding some chopped nuts to the unsweetened cocoa powder topping. Or, you could drizzle melted chocolate on top.
How to roll truffles into balls.
Rolling truffles into balls is the most challenging part of this recipe. I suggest dampening your hands with water and having paper towels nearby. The water will help the truffle form into a ball and the paper towel will be handy for quick clean ups.

The recipe for Sugar Free Chocolate Truffles (keto, low carb)
I mentioned above that rolling truffles into balls is the most challenging part of this recipe. I suggest dampening your hands with water and having paper towels nearby. The water will help the truffle form into a ball and the paper towel will be handy for quick clean ups.
You can also personalize your truffles.
Make your truffles more interesting by adding some chopped nuts to the unsweetened cocoa powder topping. Or, you could drizzle melted chocolate on top. Using sugar free white chocolate chips instead of the chocolate ones or as a drizzle on top is another option.
Ingredients needed to make Sugar Free Chocolate Truffles (keto, low carb)
- Sugar Free Chocolate Chips- 1 cup.
- Heavy Whipping Cream- ½ cup.
- Vanilla Extract- 1 teaspoon. Feel free to use mint extract, maple extract, or another flavor instead!
- Unsweetened Cocoa Powder- 1 cup.
How to make Sugar Free Chocolate Truffles (keto, low carb)
- In a microwave safe bowl, heat the heavy whipping cream until it just begins to bubble (about a minute or two depending on your microwave).
- Place the chocolate chips on top of the heavy whipping cream and allow them to sit in order to soften from the heat. The chocolate chips will take a few minutes to soften. When the chocolate chips begin to melt you can gently stir them to help combine them with the whipping cream. Then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Refrigerate the mixture for at least 30 minutes to allow it to thicken. Meanwhile, line a baking sheet with parchment or wax paper. Also, place the cocoa powder in a shallow bowl.
- Use a scoop or a spoon to scoop out individual truffles. Working with one at a time, scoop the truffle, roll it into a ball, and then dip it into the cocoa powder. Then place the truffle on to the baking sheet and repeat. You can use a fork to hold on to the truffle for dipping and then another fork or spoon to help guide and cover the truffle with the cocoa powder. Another option is to roll the truffle around in the cocoa powder.
- Store the truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They should keep for about a week. Alternatively, you could also try freezing them.
