I like that this recipe is low in carbohydrates, keto diet friendly, and gluten free.
Sugar Free Copycat Twix Bars
A sugar free, low carb, keto friendly treat.
I'm not sure if this is a snack or a dessert or both! 🙂
Did you try my Low Carb Keto Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup recipe?
That recipe is also for a sugar free 'copycat' version of a popular candy treat.
This recipe however, does not have peanut butter in it.
I am always looking for fun kitchen gadgets that will make my work easier and more enjoyable. Here are some kitchen gadgets that you too may find helpful.
This recipe is for anyone asking can you eat Twix on keto?
You probably already know that keto and low carbohydrate diets do not include sugar in them. This is because sugar contains carbohydrates.
Sugar Free Copycat Twix bars do not have sugar in them.
You should also know that this recipe is not for an actual "Twix" bar but, for a copycat version of one. In this recipe we will make a chocolate covered treat that tastes and looks like the real thing but, without the sugar and carbs in it.
You may be wondering what ingredients are in a Twix bar.
Twix bars are known as shortbread cookies or biscuits covered with chocolate. There may also be caramel, peanut butter, or other ingredients depending on the flavor of the bar itself.
This sugar free recipe features three layers, all sugar free.
Like with the original, we will make a crunch inside. Then we will cover that with a sugar free caramel covered with sugar free chocolate.
Here are some tips for making homemade candy.
While this may seem to be a simple recipe, and it really is, I recommend following the steps as they are presented in order. This is because this recipe is really about three layers each consisting of separate directions.
Here are some more helpful tips for you.
- This recipe call for sugar free powdered sugar. You can make your own sugar free powdered sugar using this recipe. However, you can find sugar free powdered sugar online or use a granular sugar free 'icing' sugar.
- Also in this recipe, almond flour. An alternative to almond flour would be another nut flour that measures the same (ie not coconut flour) or oat flour.
- To make the bars, this recipe calls for cutting the bars and then covering them with chocolate. However, if you are pressed for time or want something different, you can easily make this recipe like a bar recipe and cut them after you cover them with chocolate.
How to store homemade Copycat Twix Bars.
These bars can be stored in an air tight container for up to one week in the refrigerator or in the freezer for longer. I do recommend that you allow them to sit at room temperature before serving.

The recipe for Sugar Free Copycat Twix Bars
I mentioned earlier that this recipe call for sugar free powdered sugar. You can make your own sugar free powdered sugar using this recipe. However, you can find sugar free powdered sugar online or use a granular sugar free 'icing' sugar.
Also mentioned, this recipe calls for almond flour.
An alternative to almond flour would be another nut flour that measures the same (ie not coconut flour) or oat flour.
Ingredients needed to make homemade sugar free copycat Twix.
- Almond Flour- 1 ½ cups. Please use an alternative that measure 1:1 with almond flour if needed.
- Sugar Free Powdered Sugar- ¼ cup. See above for alternatives.
- Salt- ⅛ teaspoon.
- Butter- 4 tablespoons, melted. Use an unsalted butter or omit the salt above if using a salted butter.
- Brown Sugar Alternative- ½ cup. Please use a brown sugar alternative that measures 1:1 with sugar and that can be heated.
- Unsalted Butter- 5 tablespoons (this is for the caramel layer).
- Sugar Alternative- ¼ cup. This should be a granular sugar alternative that measures 1:1 with sugar and that can be heated.
- Heavy Whipping Cream- ½ cup.
- Vanilla Extract- ½ teaspoon.
- Xanthan Gum- ¼ teaspoon.
- Salt- ¼ teaspoon. Again, you can omit this if you are using a butter with salt in it.
- Sugar Free Keto Friendly Chocolate Chips- 2 cups.
How to make Sugar Free Copycat Twix Bars
As mentioned above, this is a three part recipe. We have the cookie middle, caramel layer, and chocolate covering.
- Preheat the oven to 350. Prep a square baking dish for nonstick- butter or 'grease' works best.
- In a large mixing bowl, use a fork or a whisk to mix together the almond flour, sugar free powdered sugar (first mention), salt, and melted butter. Once combined, transfer this to the prepper baking dish and press the mixture into the pan. Tip- Use a measuring cup (with nonstick spray on the bottom if needed) to firmly push the crust into the pan. Bake until firm- 15-20 minutes. Remove this from the oven and allow it to cool fully (placing the baking dish on a cooling rack can help it cool).
- For the caramel layer, in a medium saucepan, bring the brown sugar alternative, butter, and the granular sugar alternative to a boil. Allow to simmer, until the sugar alternatives have fully dissolved- you will need to whisk or stir continually. This step should take no longer than five minutes.
- Remove the melted butter and sugar mixture from the stove and carefully whisk in the heavy cream and vanilla extract (this can become bubbly). Then stir in the salt and xanthan gum.
- Return the sauce pan to the stove on medium and allow this to thicken to a caramel-like consistency (about three to five minutes), stirring consistently. Once thickened, you can pour this over the cooled crust that is in the baking dish.
- Allow this to cool to room temperature and then cover it with foil or wrap and place it into the freezer to harden. It should take between one and two hours to freeze. You can even freeze it overnight if needed.
- Lastly, cut the bars into rectangles and layout a sheet of parchment paper or wax paper on a rimmed baking sheet. Then melt the chocolate using a double boiler or microwave method. I use a microwave-safe bowl and stop the microwave to stir the melting chocolate every 30 seconds.
- Use a fork, tong, large spoon, or what ever works best to dip each bar into the chocolate. Then place the dipped bar on to the prepared rimmed baking sheet for the chocolate to harden. Repeat until done. Store the bars in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
