Tips for making the best dump cake.
This recipe was based upon a standard lemon dump cake recipe. Because sugar free cake mixes measure differently, you may find that you need additional melted butter to smooth out your cake batter. You can slowly mix in up to an additional quarter cup of melted butter if needed but, do so slowly as you do not want your batter to be too runny.
More helpful tips for you.
- Because we are using a sugar free cake mix, baking times can vary in this recipe. While you could try using the toothpick test for doneness, note that you may get some of the pudding layer on the toothpick which can give you a false negative. It is best to just make sure that the center of the cake seems set and the top layer is golden brown.
- The cake should be firm and set before slicing or it can be served in a 'less than set' way depending on how you like it. To firm up your cake for a cleaner slicing, you can refrigerate the cake before slicing.
- This cake can be served warm or cool. To enjoy this cake slightly warm, where the pieces fall apart on the plate and it tastes amazing, you can serve it with cool whip or ice cream. Allowing the cake to cool completely, until it is firm and cool to the touch, you can get even cut slices that will stay in one piece when transferred to a plate (which works well for pre-plating desserts).
