Ingredients needed to make Puff Pastry Swirls

    • Puff Pastry Dough. You can find this in the freezer section at your local grocery store.
    • Ground Cinnamon. Used for flavor.
    • Sugar Alternative. Use a granulated sugar alternative that measures like sugar and that can be baked with. Brown sugar alternative can be used with or instead the white sugar alternative.
    • Optional- melted butter. I like the melted butter in this recipe as it provides moisture and flavor.
    • Optional- toppings as described above.

Tasty variations that you can use to make your puff pastry even better.

How to make Cinnamon Swirl Puff Pastry

    Prep Time: 10 minutes
    Cook Time: 22 minutes
    Yield: 14 swirls

    1. Prepare your pastry by allowing to get to room temperature before using it in this recipe. Also, prepare your workspace by lightly dusting it with flour and also a baking sheet (parchment paper works great in this recipe!).
    2. In a small bowl, use a whisk to combine together the sugar alternative and the cinnamon. If you are using the butter, make sure that is melted as well.
    3. Preheat your oven to 350. Also, carefully unroll the puff pastry on to your workspace.
    4. Use a pastry brush to lightly brush the melted butter over the puff pastry. You can use about half of the butter as you can brush the remaining onto the pastry before baking it if you want to.
    5. Sprinkle the cinnamon and sugar alternative mixture over the melted butter.
    6. Starting at the side that is closest to you, carefully roll the pastry back up into a log as tightly as possible.
    7. Use a serrated or bread knife to slice the log into 14 equal pieces about ยฝ- ยพ" wide. If you are having trouble slicing, cover the log with plastic wrap and freeze for about twenty minutes and try slicing again.
    8. Place the sliced pastry onto the prepared baking sheet about two inches apart as they will spread. You can brush the remaining melted butter over the pastry as well.
    9. Bake for 20-22 minutes or until the begin to brown.
    10. Transfer the cinnamon swirls to a wire cooling rack to finish cooling. You can add optional toppings before serving.

Tips for making the best puff pastry.

If your pastry is frozen, it is a good idea to allow it to thaw to room temperature first (about a half hour). This is because frozen puff pastry tends to crack.

    More helpful tips for you.

    1. Before you unroll the pastry sheet, prep your work surface with a small amount of dusted flour. This will help keep the pastry from sticking to the surface when you roll it up. I actually like to use parchment paper as my work surface as it makes transferring and clean up so much easier to do!
    2. When rolling up your puff pastry, try to do this as tightly as possible for a better and more uniform shape. You can do this by rolling the pastry slowly and making sure that the ends and center are all rolled evenly.
    3. When brushing the melted butter on to the rolled out pastry, brush the butter to about a half inch of the edges of the pastry so that it stays intact while rolling.
    4. Prepare this recipe in advance and bake it later. Simply roll the pastry as directed into a log and cover with plastic kitchen wrap before freezing. Then, when you are ready to bake it, thaw the log overnight in your refrigerator before slicing it and baking as directed.

How to store puff pastry cinnamon rolls.

These tasty cinnamon rolls are really best when served warm (you will 'smell' why..),
Leftovers should be stored in an airtight container and then refrigerated for about four to five days.
