Frequently asked questions about keto pretzels.
The quick answer to this question is both no and yes.
No, regular pretzels that you would find in the snack section of your local grocery store probably are not low in carbohydrates because they are made with flour.
However, thanks to low carbohydrate ingredients that can be used in place of flour, yes, you can eat 'pretzels' on a keto and low carb diet. But, you will probably have to make the pretzels yourself.
Obviously, regular all purpose or whole wheat flour is not in keto low carbohydrate flour. These flours contain carbohydrates.
You can make your own keto low carbohydrate pretzels that do not contain flour.
These recipes are usually based upon a 'fathead' dough.
Tips for making homemade pretzel bites.
This dough may seem to be a bit more sticky than regular dough when you are working with it. Try adding a tablespoon of almond flour to the mix. Rubbing a bit of oil or spraying non-stick on your hands can make the dough easier to work with too.
More tips for you.
- These pretzel bites have more of a soft exterior to them. To crispin up the pretzels you can place them under a broiler for a minute or so.
- When selecting a mozzarella cheese, be sure to use a low moisture and lower fat cheese that is shredded. This will help the texture of these pretzel bites be more like the regular flour pretzel bites.
- While I am using salt as a topping on these pretzel bites, you can omit the salt or use another topping. Cinnamon (blended with sugar alternative), taco seasoning , or an everything seasoning would go well.
How to store homemade pretzel bites.
These pretzel bites should be stored in an airtight container. If properly stored and refrigerated, they should keep for a few days.

How to make Keto Low Carb Pretzel Bites
- Start by preheating your oven to 350 and prepping a baking sheet for nonstick. I like to use parchment paper in a recipe such as this one.
- In a microwave safe bowl, melt together the mozzarella cheese with the cream cheese. While doing this, stop the microwave every 20 seconds to stir the ingredients. This process should take a couple of minutes.
- Next, in a food processor or mixing bowl, combine together the first two eggs, baking powder, almond flour, and sugar alternative. Then add the melted cream cheese and mozzarella cheese and mix or process until a dough forms.
- Divide the dough in half to make two batches. Roll the first half out into a 'rope' that is about 1-1 ½" wide. Then cut the rope into 1" pieces. Place the pieces on your prepared baking sheet. Repeat this process with the second half of the dough.
- To make a wash for your pretzels, whip the remaining egg and brush it onto the pieces. Then you can sprinkle your salt on top.
- Bake the pretzel bites until they turn golden (about 12 minutes). Allow the pretzels to cool before serving.
Expert Tip 👉 You can make this recipe in an air fryer. Line your air fryer with a liner or spray with nonstick. Then place your cut pretzel bite dough in the basket so that they do not touch and air fry at 350 until golden (about six minutes).
