Ingredients needed to make Sugar Free Pumpkin Brownies
This recipe consists of two layers.
The ingredients needed for each of the layers are listed below.
For the Brownie Batter Layer.
- Unsweetened Cocoa Powder. Added for that chocolaty taste.
- Salt. If you are using salted butter, you can omit this.
- Flour. My brownies were made with regular all purpose flour. You can however, sub in a low carbohydrate all purpose flour.
- Baking Powder. Added for leveaning.
- Butter. The butter should be melted.
- Sugar Alternative. For best results, use a sugar alternative that measures like regular sugar and that can also be baked with.
- Eggs. The eggs should be at room temperature.
- Vanilla Extract. "Pure" vanilla extract is preferred.
Ingredients needed for the cream cheese swirl layer.
- Cream cheese. Use a full fat cream cheese bar that that is softened to room temperature.
- Sugar alternative. Again, use a granular sugar alternative that measures like sugar and that can also be baked with.
- Vanilla Extract. Added for flavor balance.
- Egg. The egg should be at room temperature.
- Flour. Regular or low carb can be used.
- Pumpkin Puree. Canned pumpkin puree is preferred as it has no added ingredients such as sugar and has already been baked.
- Pumpkin Pie Spice. Added for that flavor that is expected with a recipe such as this one.
- Ground cinnamon. Added for an extra kick of flavor.๐

- Preheat your oven to 350 and prep a baking dish for nonstick. Greasing or parchment paper should work for this recipe.
- Start by preparing the brownie layer. If you are using a brownie mix, simply prepare the mix as directed and skip to number six in these instructions.
- In a medium mixing bowl use a whisk to combine together the cocoa powder, salt, flour and baking powder.
- Next, in a mixing bowl beat together the melted butter and sugar alternative until well combined. Then add the eggs one at a time, lightly mixing after each addition. You can then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gently fold in the dry ingredients from the medium mixing bowl into the wet ingredient in the large bowl until just combined. Be careful not to overmix. Set this bowl aside.
- To make the swirl topping layer, beat the cream cheese on medium high speed until smooth and creamy. Then add the vanilla extract, egg, flour and half of the sugar alternative to the cream cheese. Mix well until fully incorporated.
- Next, divide the cream cheese mixture into two separate bowls. In your second bowl add the pumpkin puree, pumpkin spice, cinnamon and remaining sugar alternative and mix well.
- Pour about ยพ of the brownie batter, from the bowl that you had set aside earlier, into the prepared baking dish and evenly spread it in the baking dish using spatula or similar item.
- Now, alternate dropping spoonfuls of the cream cheese mix, pumpkin mix, and remaining brownie batter onto the top of the brownie batter layer. Then you can use a toothpick, skewer or even a chopstick to create swirls by dragging it lightly through the top layer of the ingredients in the baking dish.
- Bake the brownies for 30 minutes, uncovered. The carefully cover the baking dish loosely with foil and continue to bake for an additional five to ten minutes or until a toothpick comes with a few moist crumbs in the center of the brownies.

- You can also make this recipe low in carbohydrates. Simply use a low carb brownie mix for the base and a low carb flour in the swirl layer (almond flour could work).
- For extra texture and flavor, add chopped walnuts or pecans to the brownie base. I also like to add sugar free chocolate chips for additional moisture and flavor.
- To make the swirl design on the top of the brownies, you can use a knife, toothpick, or skewer to gently swirl the pumpkin mixture into the brownie batter. This will create a marbled or similar design.
How to store sugar free pumpkin brownies.
Once the brownies have fully cooled, you can store them in an airtight container.
If properly stored, these brownies should keep for about five days refrigerated or about two months frozen.
