How To Make Keto Fathead Dough
Fathead dough is like a bread type dough but, without the carbohydrate and gluten ingredients.
It is amazing how much this dough really does resemble actual bread dough in the way that it can be used.
Did you try my Low Carb Homemade Bread recipe?
That low carbohydrate bread is made using a low carbohydrate flour along with some of the usual bread dough ingredients.
This recipe however, uses other ingredients which help make the dough more flexible when used in other recipes.

You may be asking what is Fathead dough made of.
We know that regular dough is made with flour and yeast along with a few other ingredients depending on what that dough is intended to be used for. Fathead dough however, is a bit different.
Fathead dough is friendly to gluten free, keto, and low carbohydrate diets.
As a result, we will use a flour alternative- almond flour (ground almonds basically). Since almond flour has no added gluten, we will use cheese, which seems to work amazingly!
You will probably want to know how to keep fathead from sticking.
I mentioned that this recipe uses cheese.
That cheese can cause this dough to get stickie when you try to work with it.
Here is how to keep the dough from sticking to your hands while you work wiht it.
What I do is coat my hands with oil before I actually knead the dough. The oil will help prevent the dough from sticking to your hands as a result.
Here are some tips for using fathead dough.
I moment ago I mentioned that this can be a sticky dough to work with when you are using your hands. Coating your hands with a bit of oil help prevent that sticking.
Here are some more helpful tips.
- If you do not want to oil your hands before working with fathead dough, you have other options to try. Refrigerating the dough may help it be easier to work with. On the flip-side, heating the dough for a 10-15 seconds can help it become easier to work with too.
- After the cheese is melted it can become really hot or too warm to actually work with. I suggest waiting until you are comfortable to actually work with it before you touch the dough.
- While this recipe uses almond flour, you could use another similar flour. I like the idea of using coconut flour to make a sweeter tasting low carb keto gluten free dough for dessert recipes! Note that you may need to adjust ingredients and use less of the coconut flour as needed (start with half as much coconut flour and add an extra egg).
How to store Fathead Dough.
Yes, you can store extra fathead dough in the refrigerator for a couple of days or in the freezer for longer. Just be sure to wrap the dough well in plastic wrap and allow it to get to room temperature before using.
