Low Carb Almond Flour Crackers
This easy recipe for cracker will really impress you.
This reminds me of my low carb cheddar crackers, which are equally yummy and easy to make.
I like that these crackers are not like the 'less healthy' crackers that you can normally find on store shelves.
I am of course referring to crackers that have other ingredients added to them that you may not want in a cracker. This is why I like to make my own crackers.
Baking this recipe for crackers using almond flour differs from regular all purpose flour.
Obviously, almond flour does not contain wheat in it. As a result, almond flour is gluten free.
Almond flour also makes a crackers a bit different, not in a bad way.
Because it is made from almond, almond flour will provide these crackers with an 'almond' taste. Also, the texture of these crackers may seem a bit different too. I will say that since almonds do have some fat to them, they will aid in making these crackers less dry and more shelf-life friendly.
You may be wondering how to make your own almond flour for this recipe.
While you can easily buy your own already made Almond Flour, making your own is also an option. This recipe calls for one and a half cups of almond flour which means that you would need just around a cup of blanched almonds
.
To make your own almond flour, I suggest using a food processor that can handle it.
Add a quarter cup of almonds at a time and continue to process until you have reached your goal amount of almond flour. This will most likely be around a cup of almonds to reach your goal.
Here are some tips for making your almond crackers.
I already mentioned that you can easily make your own almond flour rather that buying it already made. However, it is really convenient to use Almond Flour that is already made ,
Here are some more helpful tips for making these almond crackers.
- Please be sure that you are using almond flour and not almond meal. Almond meal is make from raw almonds, rather than blanched almonds, which can affect the outcome of this recipe.
- Almond flour is certainly low in carbohydrates and is gluten free. However, it does have more calories in it than all purpose flour.
- I mentioned that almond flour has fat in it which makes whatever it is used in more moist. However, the fat in the almond flour makes it a good candidate for refrigeration as almond flour can go bad sooner than its all purpose counterpart.
- If your dough seems sticky, try refrigerating it for 20 minuter or rubbing a bit of oil over your hands.
- This is the kind of recipe that you can use alternatives with to make your own variation. I suggest making this recipe as is first and then changing up the ingredients on your next attempt in order to get familiar with the recipe and the process.
- Add seasonings as desired. My favorite seasoning could be Trader Joe's Everything But the Bagel seasoning. 🙂
This recipe calls for using an egg as the binder to keep the crackers together. .
You could easily sub in ground flaxseed and water. Alternatively, you can use an egg replacer (check the package for details on using as a binder in baked recipes).

How to make Low Carb Almond Flour Crackers
- Preheat your oven to 350 and prep a baking sheet with Parchment Paper .If you are using flaxseed meal with water as your binder, please have these mixed together before starting.
- Use a fork or whisk to gently stir your almond flour and set this aside while you work.
- Next, in a medium mixing bowl mix together the remaining ingredients.
- For the next step we will stir in the almond flour to the medium bowl with the other ingredients. To do so, add half of the almond flour then stir gently and add the remaining flour. When you are able to work this into a loose ball, transfer it to your parchment paper on the baking sheet.
- Use your hands to work the dough somewhat flat. Tip- wet your hands with water or oil to prevent sticking. Then, top the dough with a sheet of parchment or plastic. Use a rolling pin to work the dough into the baking sheet ½-1/4" thick.
- Remove the parchment or plastic covering the dough and cut your crackers into pieces. A pizza cutter works great. I recommend not fully cutting through the dough at this point.
- Bake your crackers for 12-15 minutes or until they begin to brown. If you have crackers that are baking quicker than others your can move them or remove them from the oven as needed. Allow the crackers to cool on the baking sheet.
