This is a simple recipe for blueberry sorbet that has no added sugar in it.
Even better, this recipe does not need to be heated over the stove to make.

Some recipes for sorbet do call for added sugar. The sugar is used to make a syrup when heated with other ingredients over the stove.

The sugar syrup basically helps make the sorbet soft enough to eat,

However, there are ways to work around the sugar syrup in order to make a sorbet that is at the perfect temperature for eating. The goal is to have frozen sorbet that is not too hard to easily eat.

 

You may also be wondering what is the difference between sherbet and sorbet?

It can be easy to confuse sorbet with sherbet as they are both frozen desserts that are not ice cream. However, there is a difference between sorbet and sherbet.

What sorbet and sherbet do have in common is that they both are, or can be, made with fresh fruit.

Sorbet is generally made with three ingredients, sugar, water, and fruit.
Sherbet on the other hand, is made with dairy such as milk, to make it a more creamy frozen dessert.

Really, you can use fresh or frozen blueberries in this recipe. However, if you are using fresh blueberries, make sure that they have been rinsed and then frozen first.

Here are some more helpful tips for you.

  1. Make this sorbet lower in carbohydrates. Substitute in a prepared low carbohydrate lemonade for the lemon juice and water.
  2. You can make this recipe smoother by blending in a small amount of alcohol (start with a teaspoon or two) such as vodka. Obviously this should be for adults only.
  3. Make this recipe into a sherbet. Simply stir in a half of cup of milk or similar dairy that measure like milk.

 

How to store blueberry sorbet.

This sorbet should be stored in a freezer safe air tight container.
Allow it to sit at room temperature for a few minutes or as needed to make it easier to scoop and serve.

About this recipe for blueberry sorbet.

 

This is a recipe for blueberry sorbet that has no added sugar in it.
Lemon juice is added to this recipe for both flavor and for a liquid component.

You can easily make this recipe in a strong blender or food processor.

To balance the flavor you can use a sugar alternative or honey. Also, you can however use other berries with or instead of the blueberries to make this sorbet.

 

Ingredients needed to make sorbet.

  • Blueberries- 6 cups. The blueberries should be rinsed and frozen for at least six hours. You can use prepackaged frozen blueberries as long as there is no added sugar.
  • Sugar alternative- ½ cup of sugar alternative that measures 1:1 with sugar. Or, you can use the equivalent to ½ cup of sugar in the alternative of your choice. Honey can be used at ⅓ cup. These amounts can be adjusted to your taste as well.
  • Lemon Juice- 6 tablespoons fresh (two small lemons).
  • Also, Lemon Zest- 2 teaspoons.
  • Water- ⅔ cup.

How to make No Added Sugar Blueberry Lemon Sorbet

 

  • Wash your blueberries and freeze them for at least six hours.
  • In a blender or food processor, add the ingredients listed. (You should add the blueberries, alternative, lemon juice, zest and water.) However, if you are using a blender however, you should probably start with the water first and then add the remaining ingredients before blending.
  • Blend or process the ingredients until smooth.
  • Next transfer your blended ingredients to a freezer safe air tight container. Or, you can also serve this sorbet immediately.
  • This sorbet can however, also be frozen in ice cube trays to be added to beverages later on.
