What is a bundt cake?
A bundt cake is technically a cake that is baked in a bundt style cake pan.
Baking a cake in a bundt style pan can yield a more visually interesting looking cake that does not need to be decorated with frosting and toppings like regular cakes.
Bundt style cake pans have a decorative design, such as grooves, which give the cakes that special appearance. Also, these cake pans are shaped as a ring with a hole in the center, which gives an opportunity for added presentation opportunities for the finished cake.
As mentioned, bundt style cake pans will bake a cake into a unique shape and design. The cake will also have a hole in the center which can be filled with fruit or other food or items for presentation.
Here is what else is different about bundt style cakes.
● The hole in the center of the cake allows for the cake to bake more evenly.
● Also, the hole allows for better moisture retention in the baked cake.
● Because of the shape of the pan, these cakes tend to be more dense.
● Bundt style cakes offer a more unique presentation in a cake.
Tips for making a bundt cake.
The success of any bundt cake rests in the unmolding process when you remove the bake cake from the pan as you want to keep the cake intact for serving.
Double prepping the pan and proper cooling after baking is essential for the keeping the cake intact.
More helpful tips for you.
- Greek yogurt is used in this recipe to help enhance the moisture and flavor of the cake while keeping it tender. Buttermilk or sour cream can alternatively be used.
- Avoid overmixing the ingredients as doing so can cause your cake to lose air and become more dense. It is okay if your cake batter has a few small lumps in it as these will most likely bake out.
- I am including a sugar free chocolate ganache that can be used as a topping for this cake. Another option is to simply dust the cake with a bit of sugar free powdered sugar before serving.
How to store bundt cake made with chocolate chips.
Once it has fully cooled, leftover bundt cake should be stored in an airtight container. If properly stored, this cake should keep for about three days at room temperature, four days when refrigerated, or up to a few months when frozen.

- Butter. Your butter should be softened to room temperature. If you are using unsalted butter, add a half teaspoon of salt to your flour.
- Sugar Alternative. Use a granular sugar alternative that measures like sugar and that can also be baked with.
- Eggs. Use large eggs that are at room temperature.
- Heavy Cream. This is used for both the cake and the chocolate ganache. Half and half can alternatively be used in the cake.
- Greek Yogurt. Use plain Greek Yogurt that is also full fat for moisture.
- Vanilla Extract. This offers the perfect flavor balance in this cake recipe.
- Flour. For low carb keto diets, use an all purpose low carb keto flour that measures like regular all purpose flour. Gluten free all purpose flour should also measure like all purpose flour. Almond flour can be used with consideration given to an added binder .
- Baking powder and baking soda are used for leavening this cake.

How to make Sugar Free Chocolate Chip Bundt Cake
Servings: 8 slices
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Bake Time: 45 minutes
Cool Time: 15 minutes
- Preheat your oven to 325 and double prep your bundt cake pan for nonstick. I like to grease or oil my pan and then dust it with flour for example.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat together the butter and the sugar alternative until smooth and creamy.
- Add the eggs, Greek yogurt, vanilla extract, and heavy cream to the mixing bowl. Use a whisk or whisk attachment to fully incorporate these ingredients into the creamed butter and alternative.
- Next, add the flour, baking powder, and baking soda to the mixing bowl and continue to whisk until the ingredients are just combined.
- Lastly, use a rubber spatula to gently fold in the chocolate chips that are needed for the cake.
- Evenly transfer the cake batter to your prepared bundt pan. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until begins to brown and a toothpick comes out clean (test in more than one location if you are getting melted chocolate on your toothpick).
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan on a wire cooling rack for 15 minutes. To remove the cake from the pan, gently tap the pan on your countertop and then carefully invert the cake onto the rack (place the rack on top of the cake and then flip both over while holding them together) to cool completely.
- To make the ganache, simply microwave the ingredients, stopping to stir every 20 seconds, until creamy. You can drizzle this or spread this evenly over the fully cooled cake.
Expert Tip👉 Allowing the cake to cool on a rack just after removing it from the oven will make it easier to successfully remove the cake from the bundt pan without the cake cracking or breaking.
