This is a simple waffle recipe that is made with no added sugar. We are adding unsweetened cocoa to make this a chocolate waffle recipe.
This recipe can also be made keto, low carbohydrate and gluten free diet friendly.
Simply use fine almond flour for the regular flour and add an extra egg. Also, you will need to use a milk alternative and make sure that the other ingredients are also friendly to your diet needs.
Ingredients needed to make sugar free chocolate waffles.
- All purpose flour. As mentioned, almond flour can be used instead as long as an extra egg is added.
- Baking Powder. Adds air to our waffles to make them more fluffy.
- Unsweetened Cocoa Powder. This is what makes the waffles chocolate.
- Sugar Alternative. Use a granular sugar alternative that measures like sugar and can be baked or cooked with.
- Milk. You can use unsweetened milk alternative (nut, oat,etc) or half and half alternatively.
- Egg. Your egg should be at room temperature for best results.
- Vanilla Extract. This helps to balance out the flavors.
- Optional- sugar free chocolate chips. Adding chocolate chips really makes these waffles a chocolate delight!
How to make Sugar Free Chocolate Waffles
Prep Time: 5 minutes.
Cook Time: 40 minutes.
Servings: 4 servings (depending on the size of your waffle maker).
- Start by preheating and prepping your waffle iron according the the manufacturer's instructions.
- In a large mixing bowl, use a whisk to mix together the flour, baking powder and unsweetened cocoa. Then whisk in the sugar alternative.
- Next, in another bowl, use another whisk or a fork to mix together the milk, egg, and vanilla.
- Add the wet ingredients from the second bowl to the dry ingredients in the first bowl and mix until just combined and there are no large lumps. You can fold in any optional chocolate chips.
- Depending on the size of your waffle maker, spoon the batter for the first waffle into the waffle maker (my waffles were made with a cup of batter).
- You can cook your waffles for three to five minutes (depending on the size) or until the edges appear crips and the center cooked. center.
