What is a Pop Tart?

'Pop Tarts' are a pastry tart filled with jam or a filling that is usually sweet in nature. Sometimes, these tarts will have a glaze topping as well.

While pop tarts may be pre-baked, it is intended that they may be reheated in a toaster. Hence, the name 'Pop Tart', as the tart can 'pop' out of a toaster.

How do you eat a pop tart?

The sugar free pop tarts made in this recipe can be eaten just after cooling from being baked and glaze. However, they can also be wrapped up and reheated or enjoyed cold.

Because of the size of this tart, it would make sense that it would be eaten using your hands. However, because it is a tart, you could also place it in a bowl with a scoop of ice cream right? πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‰

How to make Sugar Free Keto Pop Tarts

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Servings: 4

  • Start by making the pie crust (you can skip this and use a refrigerated crust or the recipe of your choice.) In a food processor, combine together the almond flour, erythritol, cold butter and the egg. Pulse the ingredients until it can form a ball. This should take a few minutes however, if the ingredients are too dry you can add a teaspoon of water.
  • When your crust is done, place it into the refrigerator to chill for ten minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 375 and prep a rimmed baking sheet for nonstick. I like parchment paper.
  • Use a nonstick mat, wax or parchment paper, or lightly floured surface to roll out your dough to about ¼” thick.
  • Next, use a knife or pizza cutter to cut crust into rectangles that are approximately 2” by 3”.
  • Now, fill half of the rectangles that you just cut out with three tablespoons of the jam. Then, place another rectangle on top and use a fork to crimp the edges in order to seal them .
  • Now, use a pastry brush to apply the egg wash (beaten egg with a teaspoon of water) to the tops of the tarts.
  • Bake your pop tarts for 15-18 minutes, or until the pies are golden brown around the edges.

How to make sugar free glaze.

  • For the glaze (you can omit this) whisk together the sugar free powdered sugar with the milk (making adjustments as needed) until you get a good consistency. Then apply the glaze on to the tops of the cooled tarts.

Expert tipπŸ‘‰ If you roll out your dough and make the tarts on parchment paper, you can use the parchment paper to easily transfer the tarts to the baking sheet.
