Ingredients needed to make this hazelnut spread brownies recipe.
- Flour. All purpose flour was used to make my brownies. You can use an alternative flour such as low carb flour or gluten free flour as long as it measures and bakes like all purpose.
- Unsweetened Cocoa Powder. This helps make these brownies chocolaty like a brownie should be.
- Butter. If you are using unsalted butter, add a teaspoon of salt to the flour. The butter should also be cut into cubes.
- Sugar Free Chocolate Chips or Chopped Unsweetened Chocolate. Darker chocolate will make these brownies even more decadent.
- Sugar Free Hazelnut Spread. You can purchase hazelnut spread with no added sugar or make your own using this recipe for Sugar Free Copycat Nutella.
- Sugar Alternative and Brown Sugar Alternative. For best results, select granular sugar alternatives that measure like regular sugar and that can also be baked with.
- Eggs. Your eggs should be at room temperature for better blending.
- Vanilla Extract. Added for flavor balance.
- Optional- sea salt flakes for topping the brownies with.
Expert Tip๐ No leavener is used in this recipe in order make the brownies more dense and thus fudgy. If you prefer to have brownies that have a bit of leavening then you can add a half teaspoon of baking powder to the flour.
How to make Sugar Free Hazelnut Spread Brownies
Prep time: 15 minutes.
Bake time: 30 minutes.
Cooling time: 20 minutes.
Servings: 16 brownies.
- Preheat your oven to 325 and prep a square baking pan for nonstick. I like to use parchment paper that overhangs the sides of the pan for a recipe such as this one. Aluminum foil can also work but, I would spray that with a bit of nonstick as well.
- In a medium bowl, use a fork or a whisk to combine together the flour and unsweetened cocoa powder.
- Next, in a large microwave-safe bowl, melt together the butter, chocolate chips, and half of the hazelnut spread, stopping to stir every 30 seconds. This process can take up to two minutes for the chocolate to melt for ingredients to combine together.
- Carefully transfer this mixture to a large mixing bowl and beat in the sugars until combined and creamy. Then stir eggs and vanilla extract.
- Add the dry ingredients from the first bowl to the mixing bowl and mix until just combined. Then transfer this mixture to your prepared baking pan.
- Lastly, top the brownie batter with dollops of the remaining hazelnut spread.
- Bake these brownies for 25-30 minutes or until the edges seem set. The center may still seem soft but, will continue to set while these brownies set. While you could try using the toothpick test, there is chance that you will get a false negative as these brownies are fudgy. A few crumbs on the toothpick should be okay. Baking times can vary as well depending on the size of your baking pan.
- Place the brownies in the baking pan on top of a cooling rack to fully cool (about 20 minutes). Then lift the brownies out of the pan and slice into servings.
Expert Tip๐ These brownies are suitable for freezing. Simply place the cooled brownies in an airtight container or wrap well in foil for up to three months. When you are ready to seven allow the brownies to that to room temperature.

- I like to line my baking pan with parchment paper that overhangs the edges of the pan. This not only makes it easier to clean up my mess, it makes it easier to remove the cooled brownies for slicing.
