What are kitchen sink brownies?
'Kitchen sink' is a description that is often used to describe a dessert that has a lot of ingredients added to it. Many of those added ingredients may be unusual for a a common recipe for that specific dessert.
When a recipe is called 'kitchen sink' that is a play on the phrase 'everything but the kitchen sink'. That is, the perception of the recipe is that there are a lot of different kinds of ingredients in it.
With a baked good recipe, 'everything' refers to the many ingredients added to the recipe beyond the usual or predictable ingredients. These ingredients will usually be a balance of one another, such as salty versus sweet or crunchy versus soft.
Here are some tips for making kitchen sink brownies with no added sugar.
You can make this recipe even easier by using a sugar free brownie mix and adding the add in to that. Keto low carbohydrate diet folks can use a keto brownie mix to make this recipe with.
More helpful tips for you.
- I use Parchment Paper that overhangs the sides of my brownie baking pan. This allows me to easily remove the brownies from the pan (less mess!!) for cutting.
- For a more 'cake-like' brownie, omit the chocolate chips and bake your brownies for a longer time. Then allow them to cool in the pan. Even better, you can place the chocolate chips on top of the warm brownies and allow them to melt! YUM!
- Use fresh ingredients in your brownies batter. This is essential especially with your dry ingredients as expired ingredients can, and most likely will, affect your brownies results 🙁 .
- When mixing your ingredients, mix them until just combined. Also, the add in work best when they are folded in rather than stirred or beaten in.
How to store these everything brownies.
Once these brownies have fully cooled they should be stored in an airtight container or wrapped well. If properly stored, these brownies should keep for up to three days at room temperature or up to a few months when frozen. Note that refrigerating these brownies can affect the texture.

- In a medium mixing bowl, use a fork or whisk to mix together your flour, baking powder and unsweetened cocoa powder.
- Next, in a large mixing bowl, mix together your sugar alternatives with the melted butter until smooth. Then stir in the milk along with the eggs.
- For the next step, we will add the dry ingredients from the first bowl to the wet ingredients in the second bowl. Mix until just combined.
- Gently fold in the add in ingredients and the transfer the brownie batter to your prepared baking pan.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the brownies appear set in the center. Using the toothpick method of checking for readiness will possibly result in a false positive because of the melting chocolate chips. Allow your brownies to to cool prior to cutting into squares.
Expert Tip👉 Allow these kitchen sink brownies to cool completely before storing them. This will help prevent condensation from forming, which can make the brownies soggy.
