Sugar Free Low Carb Mojito is a perfect beverage especially on a warm evening.

I like that this recipe can be made without sugar and without booze if desired.

    Sugar Free Low Carb Mojito

This is the sugar free version of a popular mint and lime flavored beverage.
A mojito can be made with our without the added rum.

Have you tried my recipe for Keto and Sugar Free Margaritas?

That 'skinny' margarita is a popular one as it also can be made with our without the booze.
This recipe is made with rum, which is carbohydrate free in case you are wondering.

I have some great ideas for how you can make popular beverages without the added sugar.
Not just the alcoholic kind of beverages. There are copycat versions of popular drive-thru beverages, coffee beverages, and some seasonal beverages too!

People ask exactly what is the mojito meaning.

Technically, this is refreshing and alcoholic a Cuban beverage that is served over ice.
However, Mojitos are usually made with rum that is combined with sugar, mint, lime juice and club soda.

They say that mojitos have been enjoyed for nearly 500 years!
It must be a popular drink to have been enjoyed for so long.
However, mojitos contain few ingredients and when served cold, they can certainly hit the spot in a warm environment, such as Cuba.

This recipe is for anyone asking how do you make a mojito from scratch.

Mojitos can easily be made in a cocktail shaker. They are also served in a highball glass or 'Collins' glass.

The mint leaves in a mojito need to be 'muddled'.

Muddling is a process that helps release the oils and flavors from the mint leaves.
While some people use a cocktail muddler to muddle in the glass, I suggest doing this in the shaker as nobody wants broken glass in their drink.

Here are some tips for making a sugar free mojito mocktail or regular mojito.

I just mentioned that the mint leaves need to be 'muddled' in this recipe.
However, the easiest way for you to do this is to place the leaves into the non-glass shaker and use the back of the spoon to press the leaves into the sides of the shaker a few times to release the juice from the leaves.

Here are some more helpful tips for you to try.

    1. To make this a 100% carb-free sugar free recipe, you will need to use a lime alternative. One option is to use a carbonated lime beverage (LaCroix has one that I use). I also stumbled upon Zero Calorie Margarita Mix that you can try using with your club soda or bubbly water.
    2. Matcha Powder is an optional ingredient in this recipe. This option was added just to give this beverage a fun twist. Feel free to omit the matcha if desired.
    3. While this beverage is commonly made with club soda, some folks like to add a bit of ginger flavoring to their mojito. Instead of the club soda, you can add ginger ale or Ginger beer if you are interested in doing this. Be sure to note the added sugar in these products if you are thinking about using one of them.

Yes, you can make this a sugar free virgin mojito mocktail.

Simply omit the rum from this recipe to do so. Adding a bit of extra sugar alternative can help balance out the flavors if needed.

The recipe for Sugar Free Low Carb Mojito

I want to stress that when you use a cocktail muddler on your mint, it should not be done in a glass. Do this in your cocktail shaker instead to avoid breaking the glass.

Muddling is done to release the juices from the mint.

If you do not have a cocktail muddler, you can simply use the backside of the spoon instead.
Gently press the muddler or spoon into the mint until you release some of the liquid from the leaves.
      .

Ingredients needed to make a sugar free Mojito.

As I mentioned above, adding the rum is optional as is the matcha powder.

    • Mint Leaves- 10. Fresh mint leaves are important to this recipe and should not be omitted or substituted for. You can however, use more or less depending on your tastes.
    • Limes- 2 juiced plus additional for serving. That is about ¼ cup.
    • Sugar alternative- ½ cup equivalent to sugar. Does not need to be 1:1 measure with sugar. You can however, feel free to adjust this to your liking.
    • Optional- white rum- ¾ cup or as desired.
    • Optional- Matcha Powder- 4 teaspoons. If you however are not a fan of matcha, you can simply omit this ingredient.
    • Ice- 4 cups or as desired.
    • Club Soda- 2 cups. You can adjust this as needed to compensate for the rum and ice.

How to make Mojitos with no added sugar.

Depending on the size of your cocktail shaker, you can divide the ingredients into batches .

    • Place your mint leaves into your cocktail shaker along with the lime juice. Use your cocktail muddler or the back of the spoon to press the leaves into the bottom and sides of the shaker in order to thus release the oils from the mint leaves.
    • Next, add your sugar alternative to the shaker, cover the shaker, and give the ingredients a quick shake. You do not need to shake your mojitos a lot. However, shake them as needed to blend the ingredients.
    • You can prepare your glasses for serving the mojitos. If you are adding the matcha, place a ½ to one teaspoon of the matcha tea along with a tablespoon of the club soda into the bottom of each glass.
    • Place your ice into each glass. Then pour the contents from you shaker into each of your glasses. Top your glasses with with the club soda and serve.
