I just mentioned that the mint leaves need to be 'muddled' in this recipe.

- To make this a 100% carb-free sugar free recipe, you will need to use a lime alternative. One option is to use a carbonated lime beverage (LaCroix has one that I use). I also stumbled upon Zero Calorie Margarita Mix that you can try using with your club soda or bubbly water.
- Matcha Powder is an optional ingredient in this recipe. This option was added just to give this beverage a fun twist. Feel free to omit the matcha if desired.
- While this beverage is commonly made with club soda, some folks like to add a bit of ginger flavoring to their mojito. Instead of the club soda, you can add ginger ale or Ginger beer if you are interested in doing this. Be sure to note the added sugar in these products if you are thinking about using one of them.
Yes, you can make this a sugar free virgin mojito mocktail.
Simply omit the rum from this recipe to do so. Adding a bit of extra sugar alternative can help balance out the flavors if needed.

I want to stress that when you use a cocktail muddler on your mint, it should not be done in a glass. Do this in your cocktail shaker instead to avoid breaking the glass.
Muddling is done to release the juices from the mint.
If you do not have a cocktail muddler, you can simply use the backside of the spoon instead.
Gently press the muddler or spoon into the mint until you release some of the liquid from the leaves.

How to make Mojitos with no added sugar.
Depending on the size of your cocktail shaker, you can divide the ingredients into batches .
- Place your mint leaves into your cocktail shaker along with the lime juice. Use your cocktail muddler or the back of the spoon to press the leaves into the bottom and sides of the shaker in order to thus release the oils from the mint leaves.
- Next, add your sugar alternative to the shaker, cover the shaker, and give the ingredients a quick shake. You do not need to shake your mojitos a lot. However, shake them as needed to blend the ingredients.
- You can prepare your glasses for serving the mojitos. If you are adding the matcha, place a ½ to one teaspoon of the matcha tea along with a tablespoon of the club soda into the bottom of each glass.
- Place your ice into each glass. Then pour the contents from you shaker into each of your glasses. Top your glasses with with the club soda and serve.
