A keto friendly recipe idea for bagels.

I like how amazing these bagels are with the everything seasoning on top!

Did you try my Low Carb Homemade Bread recipe?

That low carbohydrate bread is made using a low carbohydrate flour along with some of the usual bread dough ingredients.
This recipe however, is based upon the fathead keto low carbohydrate recipe.

Sometimes you just need a baking mix to get your kitchen creations done. I found some sugar free, keto, and low carb baking mixes that you may be interested in checking out!

People ask can you eat bagels on a keto diet.

It took me about a week to get over the bread when I first started keto low carb dieting.
Bagels were certainly my challenge, especially the everything ones!

However, there is a way to eat bagels on a keto diet.

Using a keto low carb dough recipe for the bread part. Then making the bagels just like you would make a normal bagel.

You may be wondering, what does fathead dough taste like.

To be honest, once you dress the dough up, you may not even notice that it is fathead and not regular dough. That is part of the point I suppose of a recipe such as this one.

By the way, this bagel can be eaten just like you would eat a regular bagels.

Since it is all low carbohydrate, you could simply butter your bagel and enjoy it.
However, why not make a low carb schmear?

How To Make Keto Fathead Dough

Here are some tips for make homemade bagels.

Let me start by mentioning that this recipe calls for making a Fathead dough.
Making fathead dough is easy, as you can learn how to make fathead dough here.

Here are some more helpful tips for you.

    1. If you are not a fan of the everything bagel, you could use another seasoning instead. I also have a recipe for plain low carb homemade bagels here.
    2. To make this an 'everything bagel' you will need to use 'everything seasoning'. You can find 'everything seasoning' here.
    3. Sprinkle a bit of the everything seasoning on the parchment paper before you place the bagels on the sheet. This will both help keep the bagels from sticking to the paper and season both the tops and the bottoms of the bagels.

You are probably wondering what is Schmear made of.

Schmear is made of cream cheese blended with other goodness.
For these bagels you could simply blend in some additional everything seasoning with your cream cheese or maybe some grated cheese or chopped lox (salmon). Nom Nom. ๐Ÿ™‚

The recipe for Keto Low Carb Everything Bagels

So I mentioned earlier to make this recipe you will need a batch of fathead dough.
You can find my recipe for homemade fathead dough here.

Also mentioned, you will need 'everything seasoning' to make these bagels.

I suggested that you sprinkle some of the seasoning onto the baking sheet before placing the bagels on top to both season the bottom of the bagels and help keep them from sticking to the parchment paper.

Ingredients needed to make keto low carb everything bagels.

    • Fathead Dough- 1 batch. You can find my recipe for homemade fathead dough here.
    • Egg- 1 beaten.
    • Water- 1 tablespoon. Note- you can omit the water and add an additional egg to the beaten egg if desired.
    • Everything Seasoning- 3 tablespoons plus additional as needed.
    • Optional-1 to 2 teaspoons of xanthan gum. Mixing this into your fathead dough before making these bagels will give you a more 'bread-like' bagel. This is something that some folks like.

How to make keto low carb Everything Bagels.

    • Prepare the fathead dough as directed. If you want your bagels to come out more 'bread-like', stir in the optional xanthan gum before using the dough in this recipe.
    • Preheat your oven to 400. Line two rimmed baking sheets with parchment paper. Sprinkle a bit of the everything seasoning on parchment paper lined baking sheets.
    • Divide the fathead dough in half and then keep dividing it until you get ten equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball.
    • For each individual ball, hold the dough ball in one hand and then use a finger from the other hand to push up through the center of the ball to make the hole of the bagel. Gently form the ball into a bagel and place it on to the prepped baking sheet. Leave enough room between bagels to allow for spread.
    • Blend together the egg with the water and use a brush the tops of the bagels. I mentioned in the ingredient listing that you can add an additional egg and omit the water depending on how glossy you want your bagels to be. Sprinkle the everything seasoning on top of each bagel. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the bagels begin to turn brown. Allow the bagels to cool before serving. Enjoy the aroma! ๐Ÿ™‚
