People ask, what is the best apple for apple pie
I like to use more than one variety of apple in my pie to make the taste a bit more personable.
Adding a variety of apples helps give the pie a better taste in my opinion.
However, many people like to certain varieties of apples that seem to be more successful.
- Granny Smith
- Rome
- Honeycrisp
- Jonathan
- Golden Delicious
- Fuji
Some of the above apple varieties are location specific and may not be available in your neck of the woods. Obviously, this is not a complete list of apples that make the best sauce. I tend to stick with what is ripe at the time that I am making applesauce. I also like to mix something that is a bit tart with something that may be a bit sweeter just to balance them out.
Here are some tips for making an apple pie.
If you are making a homemade pie crust for this recipe, be sure to make the pie crust ahead of time. The crust will do best when it is able to be refrigerated first.
Here are some more helpful tips for you.
- After placing the pie crust in the pan, use a fork to poke a few holes in it before adding the other ingredients. This will help the pie breath better when it bakes.
- Preheating the oven is essential to helping the pie bake evenly. Also, allowing the pie to bake until completely baked is important for the ingredients to bind together.
- The best place to bake a pie is on the lowest rack in the oven. Some folks like to place a baking sheet on the rack when the oven preheats. This allows for the crust to fully bake, easier transporting when removing the pie from the oven, and a place for possible ingredient overflow to go.
How to store a sugar free pie.
This pie should be well-covered or stored in an air tight container in the refrigerator.
The pie should keep for a few days if stored correctly.
