Frequently asked questions about eggnog cake.
Eggnog is a milk-based beverage made with eggs and other ingredients.
This beverage is commonly enjoyed during the Christmas or holiday season.
Since eggnog contains raw eggs which can have salmonella, it is important that eggs have been pasteurized first. This means that the eggs have been cooked to kill the bacteria (read the label!) first.
In this recipe, eggnog is added in place of a liquid ingredient such as milk that would normally be added to the cake mix.
The eggnog used in this recipe adds both moisture and flavor to this cake.
Using a sugar free or low sugar eggnog will help keep this cake sugar free or near sugar free.
Tips for making an eggnog cake.
My cake was made as a traditional layered cake. You however can make this a more dense bundt style cake by adding a box of vanilla pudding, two extra eggs, and one less cup of eggnog (making adjustments as needed for baking).
More helpful tips for you.
- My cake uses sugar free eggnog. Alternatively, you can use regular eggnog or heavy cream instead.
- If you want a filling other than frosting you can combine together a box of instant pudding with a cup and a half of additional eggnog (adjusting as needed for texture).
- Allow the cake to set for about 10 minutes in the cake pan after taking it out of the oven. Then you can remove the cake and allow it to finish cooking on a cooling rack.
How to store eggnog cake.
I like to store my cake in a covered cake carrier or stand. Since eggnog is involved with this recipe, I will refrigerate my cake.
